The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Finnish Forward Niklas Hagman to a 4 year contract that will pay him $3 million/season. The 28 year old 6'0" left winger comes from the Western Conference Finalist Dallas Stars.
Hagman had a career year last season with the Dallas Stars, scoring 27 goals and 41 points. He had 3 points (2 goals) in 18 playoff games this Spring. In the previous season, Hagman had 17 goals and 29 points.
While his point totals aren't extremely impressive, he will likely receive more ice time in Toronto than he did in Dallas. Personally, I like this signing. He'll likely be a 2nd line player in Toronto and brings a lot to the table. Hopefully, he will be able to keep increasing his offensive output, and I think you can put him on about 50-60 points in the upcoming season.
In a couple years, that $3 million salary may be a steal, for now; it's a little high. But overall, it's a pretty solid move, and the Leafs are badly in need of some quality forwards.
