IconRemember the glory days in Sacramento? Remember when they were 61-21 in the 2001-2002 NBA season, and were one win away from the NBA Finals? Remember when the Kings offense averaged over 100 ppg? Remember when the Kings took the league by storm with Mike Bibby, Chris Webber, Peja Stojokovic, Vlade Divac, Doug Christie, Hedo Turkoglu, Bobby Jackson, Jim Jackson, and coach Rick Adelman? Well those days are over—the Kings stink now and it looks like they are headed for another lottery pick in 2008.

If weren't for Kobe, Shaq, and the Lakers, the Kings probably would have been NBA champions back in 2002.The Kings took the Lakers to 7 games in the 2002 Western Confernce Finals and lost in overtime. If you had to place blame on why the Kings lost game seven I would point the finger at Peja Stojokovic. Peja air balled two three pointers in the 4th quarter of that game. Peja shouldn't have been in that game due to a sprained ankle that caused him to miss a few games of that series. Mike Bibby torched the Lakers in that series—he was pretty much unstoppable averaging 20.3 ppg.

Let's not forget about the historic game-winning three pointer by Robert Horry in game 4 of that series which really turned it around.

But this isn't about the 2002 Western Conference Finals—it's about how the Maloof brothers torn this team apart. Yeah it was a big blow to the franchise when star player Chris Webber blew his knee out in a 1st round playoff game against the Dallas Mavericks. Webber wasn't the same when he returned, so they decided to trade him to the 76ers for Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williamson...mistake #1

The year after they lost in the conference finals they lost Hedo Turkoglu, a huge role player that averaged about 10 ppg off of the Kings bench.

Bobby Jackson, who won 6th man of the year in Sacramento went play for to play for Memphis Grizzlies a few years later.

Doug Christie was aging and never really played like he did in 01-02 and later retired after stints in Orlando, Dallas, and L.A. for the Clippers

Peja was later involved in trade to the Indiana Pacers for Ron Artest, which brings me to the present.

Head Coach Rick Adleman was fired after the 05-06 season and is now coaching the Houston Rockets this year.

Mike Bibby is the only player remaining on the team from that 2002 Western Conference Finals run, and had his worst season in 06-07.

Kevin Martin is now the man in Sac Town, but this team is horrible

They wasted their 10th overall draft pick in 2007 on Spencer Hawes are you kidding me?

Al Thorthon was available, PG Acie Law IV was available and now that Mike Bibby is out with injury, Law doesn't sound too bad as a starting PG.

Now being a die-hard Sacramento Kings fan till this day, it's easy to criticize this team. I am living in the past too much—but can you blame me? This team was ahead of their time because Phil Jackson's Laker simply couldn't be stopped. If they would have made it past L.A., no question they could have beaten New Jersey in the finals in L.A. swept them.
