Only July 1 2008, the New Jersey Devils chose not to pick up the option on veteran winger Sergei Brylin.
Brylin, who was drafted by the team 42nd overall in the 1992 draft, has been a prominent member of the Devils franchise. In his 765 games with the club, Brylin recorded 129 goals, 178 assists, and was a + 49.
Brylin leaves the team having been on all three Stanley Cup teams meaning Martin Brodeur is the only remaining Devil on the roster who shares this honor. Brylin was also second all time on the teams consecutive games played having notched 328.

The fans at Prudential Center will miss the man they call Sarge tremendously as his jersey was among the most sighted throughout the building.
There is a slight possibility that the team can sign him for less than his $1.52 million contract according to GM Lou Lamoriello. "You never know on something like that," Lamoriello said. "In our situation here, when you have such a quality player that he's been and the type of person and what he brings in character, you never say never.”
