So many ?'s, no answers. ILya to be traded tonight or within the next few days, Rangers are in the mix!
How many times have we sat there on our couches trying to figure out what the problems are regarding the New York Rangers? How many times has the organization made some horrific move that just shocked us and had us asking why in the world would anyone do that?
Year after year we watch teams remain in the top ten in the league and say wow, how do they do it and we can not? Detroit, New Jersey, Colorado, San Jose, Ottawa, Buffalo and Calgary just to name a few. Some times you compare rosters to the Rangers and you can not help to say how can this be? The Rangers roster is so much better, has so much more talent then these other teams. But yet, year after year the Rangers find them selves struggling and battling just to make the playoffs.
What is it about the Detroit Red Wings that makes them so awesome year after year.? How are they able to maintain such great players like Pavel Datsyuk , Nicklas Lidstrom , Kirk Maltby Steve Yzerman, Paul Coffee and Henrik Zetterberg for so long and yet the Rangers can not manage to hang on to one super star for more then two or three years? Sure the Blue shirts had Brian Leetch , Mike Richter and Mark Messier for a long time, But that is ancient history, what about in the last ten years.
A Touch of Ranger History
In just the last ten years the Rangers went through ten different head coaches and at least twenty superstars. Twenty is all I can remember off the top of my head., so I am sure there are even more than that. Wayne Gretzky, Theo Fleury, Eric Lindros, Pavel Bure, Bobby Holik, Brian Leetch, Alexei Kovalev, Jaromir Jagr, and Brendon Shanahan just to name a few. All major Stars but yet no Stanley Cup for the guys in Blue. Not even a real winning season for that matter since Wayne Gretzky.
All the wrong moves are being made, with good intent I am sure. But still they are all the wrong moves.! Huge contracts to players that lost their edge way before even being signed. Huge contracts to players just because they had one good year out of ten. Putting the weight of a team on the shoulders of players that are really second or some even third line players and expecting a good season. Letting players walk that should have most definitely been resigned. Trading away draft picks and very good prospects for washed up players. Paying the players on the verge of retirement huge amounts of money but yet hold back, playing cheapskate with young players that deserve the money and that do win games for a team. Confusion is an understatement when we talk about the New York Rangers and the decisions that have been made. Seems we just keep going backwards!
It is always a struggle, some major mountain to climb for this team. Barely making it into the playoffs, or not being able to make it past the second round. Or it is some last ditch effort after the all star break that just sneaks them into the eight place seed in the conference. Always drama in New York.
This year, like the previous years is no different. Tons of talent that equals a losing season. A head coach that has no idea what he is doing, and sticking to a system, a strategy and a game plan that even has the players scratching their heads. Once you lose the faith and trust of your players, your season as a coach is over. It is unfortunate that the players can not openly come out and say what they feel, either about their teammates and or head coach. It is unprofessional, unacceptable, and just not allowed.
Maybe the owner and or GM would get a better idea of exactly what Is going on with their team if the players just verbally came out speaking about how they felt. Maybe the appropriate changes would then finally take place. Who really knows, just throwing that out there into the wind amongst the rest of the chaos.
Devils lead the pack!
It seems that the New Jersey Devils do not need major superstars to win Cups and have successful years. They seem to have made the right moves somewhere. Although they do have one of the greatest goalies to ever play the game, he is not the one scoring the goals that are needed to win games. their roster is no better then the Rangers, but yet the Devils are top seed in Easten Conference! Just might be in the coaching!
The Sabres heading for playoffs again!
The Buffalo Sabres said they do not need big name superstars to win games and make it to the playoffs year after year. They said hey, we do not need Chris Drury either and still be successful. They were not interested in paying him tons of money nor did they think he was worth it, but yet for some reason the Rangers did and are going to pay the price for 4 more years. More madness!
The Sabres will make the playoffs again this year. Their roster is filled with 2nd and 3rd liners. But they are making it work. You think coaching has anything to do with that, you think?
Making the Best of the Draft
Washington and Pittsburg said you can sign those expensive free agents, we will get our great players through draft picks. We will build up our minor league teams and move our players up through the ranks and we will be successful, and they are.
Washington will make it to the playoffs again and just might win it all. Pittsburg won the Cup last year!
Drafts picks whats that?
WAIT, Draft picks, a minor league team. Do the Rangers have those too? Dustin Brown, Alexander Semin, Mike Green, the Sedin Brothers, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Nicklas Backstrom, Steve Stamkos, Anze Kopitar, Bobby Ryan, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby ,Rick Nash and some guy named Alex Ovechkin, that is only naming a bunch out of over a hundred top players drafted just within the last few years. Yet not one of these players were signed by the Rangers. Not one player in the top one hundred were signed by the Rangers. Mayhem, confusion, or just a team always going the wrong way?
For the humor of it, lets just say some of these players were actually signed by the Rangers. The Blue shirts sit on the Hartford players for so long, would have any of those guys even seen NHL ICE, NEVER MIND PLAY IN A NHL GAME? What is the purpose of having a minor league team if you have no intensions of using them, no intensions of allowing them to move up in the ranks to prove them selves. If you look at it like that then I guess they are just wasting money paying these guys a million dollars when they can get someone else for much cheaper even half that price. Going backward I think is an understatement as well huh?
Lets be real here. We have a struggling team. Does the head coach say hey, lets bring some of these guys up and see what they have to offer. No he does not. Instead he plays the worst defenseman in the league for twenty plus minutes every game. Michal Rozsival would be lucky if he was even allowed to warm the bench for the other players if he was on another team. Here he is playing 20 plus minutes a game. Destroyed countless power play chances with his awful puck handling and fanning on shots and passes when the puck is not even moving, just sitting there in front of his feet. But yet, his still is placed on the PP. Is it just me, or are we going backwards here?
A head coach that has to be questioned on everything he does is not a head coach. Not even an assistant head coach for that matter. Not one thing he has done made any sense. He benched Redden for a few games. Did he allow Ilkka Heikkinen to even play. He had no intensions on allowing this kid to prove him self. After the first game Redden was like yeah I need to sit out , I understand. He already knew nothing was gonna come of his benching. The kid was not even allowed to show what he can do. Not allowed to be or become a game changer, a play maker, a goal scorer. Not even allowed to say hey here is am and yes I can make a difference and help this team win. As a coach it is your job to teach these young kids to become good if not great players. So is it that, Tortorella just does not have what it takes to do this, or is it that he just does not want to. Either way it is his job and either way if that is the case, then we need to get rid of him and get someone that will. Why spend millions on new free agents when you can already have a star justing in the wing, waiting to be given the chance. With Tortorella we will never know, that is for sure.
They had this big pre-season practices where both Hartford and the Rangers were going to be able to show their stuff, and “if they are good enough they will play. If the are not they will not play.” “ I don’t care who they are they will sit while the best players will indeed play” John Tortorella’s words this summer.
So I guess what he is telling us is that there was no one better then 39 year old Donald Brashear, 36 year Chris Drury? No one better then Wade Redden and Michal Rozsivsal? No one better then Dan Girardi or Brain Boyle? Is that what we are to believe? There is no one better anywhere in the Rangers system then the players on the ice? Well I don’t believe that and either should you!
Making All the Right Moves!
The Toronto Maple leafs seem to be making some really good moves, heading in the right direction. Making positive trades and picking up some solid free agents. Their recent move just landed them one of the best all around defenseman in the NHL in Dion Phaneuf. The worst team in the league is saying, laugh now but cry later. A team that has decided to rebuild, will be a force within the next two years. Mark my words. They are making solid, smart moves and obtaining some serious players. If they stay on this course, it will not take them five years or more. They will become a dominate team within two. At this rate the Rangers will still be no better then what they are now, and that is a losing team.
Guess who couldn't close the deal.
Mayhem, confusion, chaos and controversy is all we get every year out of the Rangers camp. One positive move forward, fifty steps backwards. What is a Phil KESSEL compared to Brandon Dubinsky. Only 30 goals, that isn’t anything big right?
Boston wanted Dubinsky in a trade deal for Kessel and THE Rangers said no, can you imagine that? A 30 goal plus scorer for a guy who has not even broke 20 goals yet and from the looks of it, he never will. Both players young, one player better then the other and again the Rangers pass up a great opportunity with a young bright future kid for a 3rd line player. Yes Brandon is a 3rd line player and nothing more. Wake up Dubinsky lovers, and face the facts. Think with your head not your heart.
Guess who slipped through the Rangers finger tips?
Dany Heatley was another guy the Rangers could have had. Ottawa wanted Dubs to be included in the trade. But I guess Dubs compared to a 50 goal scorer was to much to give up. Heatley has more goals right now then Dubs has points.
You get rid of Dubs and trade for Kessel or Heatley. So what you stretching the cap thin. You already have guys you can bring up in Hartford. That is what teams do. They have two solid lines and they let their young players progress into stars on those 3rd and 4th lines. Who cares about Dubinsky anyway, when you are comparing him to Heatley or Kessel who is doing his thing regardless if on the worst team in the conference. Dubs is trash anyway, and he will never be what the Rangers want him to be. You place those has-bins on the waiver sheet and hope they get picked up by other teams. Now you just freed up tons of cap. Who cares they are bums anyway. You just took one major step closer to the CUP when you signed Marion Gaborik. Signing either or Heatley or Kessel only makes your team that much stronger and better and more of a CUP contender. One step forward fifty steps back. You just can not win this way.
Ilya is up for grabbs!
Yesterdays old new, I know! But it is not the first time something like this has happen and it wll not be the last time either. Tortorella has a much bigger say in who is signed and not signed then people think. He is the one whispering in the ear of Glen Sather and now the Rangers have another chance to trade for a top player.
Right now there is word out that Ilya Kovalchuk will be traded tonight or within the next few days. Other then the obvious, Gaborik, and Lundqvist if you are glen Sather, you give up whom ever Atlanta wants for him. He is a natural superstar who will always be a great player. Even when he is 40 he will still be in the top 25 NHL players. You send Atlanta a letter and you simply ask them who do they want. Do not counter offer , do not even say yeah but. You take it and you run. Whom ever you give up, whether it is one guy or five guys, who really cares. They will never be as good as he is. NEVER! No one on this team will ever be as good as he is. With exception to Gabby.
It opens plenty of doors for the younger guys, It now forces you to be a better GM and use your draft picks wisely and not toss them aside in bad trades. Helps you get rid of those one way contracts and allows you to use the system for what it is for. Developing your younger players and bringing them up to the NHL. Try to throw in a Redden or Rosy , say here my gift to you. Give these bums away. Who cares they are not worth the money and they do nothing to improve or help this team in anyway. Here my gift to you AND SMILE WHILE YOU DO IT.
The Rangers would be nuts to let this get away from them. Cally, Dubs will not equaly Kovy;s points if you add them both up together. One guy doing the work of two of our guys. Drury wash. I mean think about this. Who can they want that Sather can possibly say no about. Gabby and Hank are the only ones. It makes perfect sense to give any one else up for Kovy.
DUH, NO MORE QUESTIONS!
Why is John Tortorella still the head coach of this team? I mean really, any moron could have done a better job with these guys. Yes even Tom Renney.
I was happy when he arrived and now the truth has come to slap us all in the face. He is a bum /clown of a coach and he is still clueless on what to do more then ¾ of the way into the season. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Tom Renney has to be laughing his butt off right now watching this team play and lose. Specially with all the talk Tort did last year. Ohh my god did he run his mouth. And now when he is asked a question, its duh, I just don’t have an answer for you. Duh defense whats that. I hate this guy. He has to go , along with Redden and Rosy, Drury and Brashear.
LEFT ALONE WITH OUR OWN THOUGHTS AND TRYING TO ANSWER OUR OWN QUESTIONS! WHAT OTHER CHOICE DO WE HAVE?
So many question that we will never get any answers to. So many lessons that should have been learned a long time ago, but yet tomorrow it will happen again. Leaving us to keep asking why, how , when and what the f@*^$. Disappointment after Disappointment, year after year. The biggest question I guess there is, is this. If you can see it, and I can see it, how come they can’t?
Mayhem, confusion, chaos, they are all understatements compared to what this team really is! We will continue to ask these question and millions more like them. As long as everything remains the same, we will be pulling our hair out of our heads as we watch our beloved Rangers get humiliated season after season. With no one to turn to for help. Like lost children in the street wondering around with out a clue.
