On Signing Day, UCF Already Has Good Crop of New Knights

"The next season starts today," UCFAthletics.com boasts, as signing day is now upon the Knights' football organization. Schools from all over the country are in signing day frenzy, and fans of the teams are watching athletics websites closely.

Here are some of the signees who have already committed George O'Leary and UCF:


Blake Bortles, QB, 6'4", 222 lbs, Oviedo, FL (Oviedo High School)


Bortles set the Seminole County record with 5,576 career passing yards and 53 touchdowns. He ranked number eight in the Orlando Sentinel Central Florida Top 100 as a senior, and was a third-team all-state pick in 2008. Additionally, he helped his team to a 9-2 record senior year.

He was twice named all-county, and completed 151-of-233 passes for 2,211 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a senior. He was also the MVP of the Central Florida All-Star game. Bortles was also recruited by Purdue, Colorado State, Kentucky, Tulane, and Western Kentucky.

 

Quenton Brown, DE, 6'3", 215 lbs, Lilburn, GA (Tucker High School)

Brown helped Tucker to a 4A State Championship at an impressive 14-1 record. He made 68 tackles, 10 sacks, and blocked five kicks as a senior, and recorded 67 tackles as a junior, including eight tackles for loss.

Brown also caught 30 passes as a tight end for 400 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally played in the North-South All-Star Game and is a member of the National Honors Society. He was also recruited by Miami, Ole Miss, Michigan State, West Virginia, and Michigan State.

 

Woodley Cadet, DB, 6'2", 206 lbs, Loxahatchee, FL (Seminole Ridge High School)

Cadet made 45 tackles (37 solo) as a senior with four deflected passes and an interception. He was named first-team all-district, all-conference, and all-area by both the Palm Beach Post and Sun Sentinel.

Additionally, Cadet was named to Bill Buchalter's Florida Top 100 list and was recruited by Illinois, Indiana, Wake Forest, and FAU.

 

Perry Meiklejohn, OL, 6'3", 306 lbs, Miami, FL (Westminster Christian)

Meiklejohn enrolled for classes in January and is currently a UCF Knight. He was twice named All-Dade County. His team went 10-0 his senior season and won the district championship. Meiklejohn was also recruited by Tennessee State.

 

Joshua Reese, WR, 6'1", 182 lbs, Miami, FL (Miami Central)

Reese's team was 12-2 in 2009, won the county championship and advanced to the FHSAA state semifinals for 6A. He's a two time all-state pick who has been ranked among the top 25 recruits in Florida and the top 150 recruits in the nation.

He was the top receiver in Miami-Dade County, with 43 catches for 820 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. Reese played for the USA in the World All-Star Game and was also recruited by Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, USF, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
