Baron Davis opts out of his contract forgoing 17.8 million next season. Davis arguably the best Warrior all last season, has now stabbed Warrior fans in the back with this decision.
There are two possibilities.....
He signs with the NY Knicks making a solid point guard and bait for Lebron in 2010.
The more likely possibility is that Davis will sign with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, making the best backcourt in the NBA. Davis an LA native who would love to play in his home town, and with the MVP Kobe Bryant.
The last possibility is very unlikely, and that would be re-signing with the Warriors for less money so they can land a high profile free agent.
Either way, with this decision leaves Bay Area fans are in a state of panic!

Wow, you seem to have the scoop on this story. What is your source?

I don't see how the Lakers could get enough cap space to sign Baron Davis.
The Clippers should be able to, if they are serious about bringing Baron to LA.

A pairing of Davis and Kobe would be a formidable force. But this seems to be pure speculation, at this point.
Davis wants what he wants-- and you can't fault a player for wanting more money. Who knows what kind of numbers Mullin and Davis's agent are throwing out? But if it turns out it's all about L.A. and he signs for similar money that GSW offered, then it's a true slap in the face.

The Lakers would have to trade for Baron but really don't have the players to do so (THey won't give up Kobe, Pau or Bynam and anything else won't get Baron). The only other way he could move to the Lakers is by signing for the MLE. The Clippers are in a strange spot at the moment. Right now the Brand and Maggette opt outs added $33 mil in cap holds. Unless the renounce one or both players they have no cap space to work with. sans cap space Baron can't sign for much at all.

the lakers do not have to trade for Baron, he just has to sign his name on the dotted line. Thats what being a 'free' agent means!

Uh...I don't think that the Lakers have much cap space for that deal to go through bro. Same goes for the Knicks.

E,
Unless you think they have a shot at making the conference finals this year with Davis (I don't) this move may work out for the Warriors. The reality is that Davis is not the long term solution and next year would have been a transition year away from a Davis-centric team. Why not accelerate the process. This is like Bill Walsh cutting players one year too early rather than one year too late only in this case, Davis cut himself. Thanks BD.

One more thing...I suspect there is a very good reason that a player as talented as Davis does not find himself voted onto the All-Star team by coaches or invited to play on Team USA. He is going to have one helluva time finding a team to give him the multi-year agreement he seeks if he can't even find the support within the league to vote him onto an All-Star team that he obvioulsy desreves.
