The face of the franchise were the two "aces", who led them to the playoffs and was the reason the Diamondbacks won the World Series.
The Milwaukee Braves Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain ("Spahn Sain pray for rain") had nothing over Johnson and Schilling.
1a) Randy Johnson
2001 Stats: 21-6, 2.49 ERA, 249 IP, 372 K, Cy Young Winner
The "Big Unit" was signed to a seven year, approx. $90 million contract in December 1998.
During his stay with Arizona, Johnson won four of his five Cy Young Awards ('95, '99, '00, '01, '02).
He was traded to the NY Yankees prior to the '07 season for Ross Ohlendorf, Luis Vizcaino, Stephen Jackson, and Alberto Gonzalez.
1b) Curt Schilling
2001 Stats: 22-6, 2.98 ERA, 256 IP, 293 K, Cy Young Runner-Up
It's amazing that Schilling not only was the runner-up to the Cy Young Award in 2001, he fell short behind Randy Johnson in 2002.
Curt was obtained in July 2000 with via trade with the Phillies. The Diamondbacks sent Omar Daal, Travis Lee, Vicente Padilla, and Nelson Figueroa.
After the 2003 season, Schilling was sent packing to the Boston Red Sox for Brandon Lyon, Jorge De La Rosa, Casey Fossum, and a minor leaguer.
It will be interesting to see if Curt Schilling gets elected to the Hall-of-Fame.
3) Miguel Batista - '01 Stats: 11-8, 3.36 ERA, 139 IP, 90 K
4) Brian Anderson - '01 Stats: 4-9, 5.20 ERA, 133 IP
5) Robert Ellis (6-5) / Albie Lopez (4-7)
