Troublesome Trio: McNabb Expects Vick, Westbrook to Stay On

Ryan CookJan 27, 2010

Have you ever seen one of those really big carousels at the circus, that just continue to go round and round and round?  Yeah, well that's what the Philadelphia Eagles off season is beginning to look like—and we're only two weeks in.

According to NFL.com blogger Steve Wyche, Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles expect teammates Michael Vick and Brian Westbrook to re-sign with the team in 2010.

"He looks forward to getting back,” stated McNabb in regards to Westbrook's future. “All the talk people are saying on retirement or whatever it may be, it’s all false.”

After being questioned on Brian Westbrook's future, McNabb was then questioned on backup quarterback Michael Vick's current position with the Eagles and whether or not he will return for a second season. A simple one word answer of "Yes" was determined.

After reading several comments and blogs relating to the issue, Eagles fans seem to be more concerned with their future rather than their teams players.  Michael Vick has always be a question for the Eagles, as no one is really sure whether or not he is happy in the city of brotherly love.

A possibility to sign with the St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins or another worthy team that needs a quarterback, Vick's position has been about as stable as Ozzy Osbourne's drug habit.  Andy Reid has proceeded to state that McNabb is his number one man for next season, and that Vick will indeed be sitting on the bench once again.  Either way you look at it, we may not see the same calm and relaxed Michael Vick in a season's time.

Brian Westbrook on the other hand is a whole new ball game.  After missing the majority of the 2009 regular season after suffering a concussion, Westbrook finished the season with 274 yards and 61 carries.  Backup Le Sean McCoy filled in, and surprisingly enough filled the void quite well.

Now Eagles fans are left with the ultimatum of, should they let Westbrook run out the rest of his career?  Or should he be demoted to backup, and wait it out on the bench?  In reality it's a tough decision given how many great games, wins and touchdowns that Westbrook has delivered.

With a possible new looking Eagles, and even a possible absence of Donovan McNabb next season, Philadelphia fans have every right to feel uneasy about 2010.  Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook gone, whose left in reality?  DeSean Jackson?  Well he's no good without a great starting quarterback.

At the moment it isn't time to panic; Andy Reid will sort it out.  He always does.  Whether or not Brian Westbrook chooses to retire, Eagles fans should rest assured that their run game is firmly in the hands of Le Sean McCoy.  The throwing game is still secure, and depending on McNabb's or Michael Vick's decision, the Eagles will still be the pass savvy team that they always were.

Things are heating up though in Philly, and its interesting to watch.  Whichever way it turns out, the Eagles are sure to make a headline or two.
