Recently the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team has received various penalties. Including a 10 grid spot penalty to driver Lewis Hamilton for accidentally running into the back of Kimi Räikkönen while they were stopped on pit lane, some say the penalty was too harsh do to the fact that Hamilton was most likely going to win the race. The penalty cost him dearly in the next race when he was not able to score any points.

Another penalty to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was a 5 grid spot penalty at the same race to Hamilton's teammate Heikki Kovalainen was running slow on the course during qualifying in which he may have been in the way of Mark Webber of Red Bull, but it did not affect the outcome of Webber's grid spot.

The penalty to Hamilton raised some eyebrows of why Räikkönen was not penalised for running into the back of Adrian Sutil of Force India, ruining Sutil's day in which he was going to have a career best finish.

Some say that the Stewards may be favoring the Scuderia Ferrari team to win the constructors championship. Last season Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was on its way to winning the constructors championship until spying allegations arouse and gave the Stewards and chance at taking all the constructors points away.
