The Philadelphia 76ers are having a tough time competing this season. Guys like Willie Green have been carrying their team at times. There comes a point in the season when every team should realize what direction they are headed in, and that time is now. Why not make a groundbreaking trade that could help them out next season?
Trade Option No. 1 — Amar'e Stoudamire
Amar'e Stoudamire and Goran Dragic for Andre Iguodala, Lou Williams, and Willie Green.
Why make this trade?
It has been made clear that Iguodala is not a franchise player. Since that is the case, why do the Sixers continue to build around him?
Getting Stoudamire would be a chance for him to stuff the stat sheets and give teams a reason to pay him more during the summer of 2010. Dragic would be a nice backup for the developing Jrue Holiday. The cap flexibility would help the Sixers build for the future and give more playing time to young guys like Thaddeus Young.
Trade Option No. 2 — Al Jefferson & Wayne Ellington
Al Jefferson and Wayne Ellington for Andre Iguodala.
Why make this trade?
The Sixers have been looking for a replacement for Samuel Dalembert ever since last year. Since there is virtually no team interested in taking his contract on, why not simply replace him? Jefferson is arguably one of the best young centers in the NBA and the TImberwolves are looking for a wing player that would fit in the triangle offense.
Iguodala would be a great fit. Throwing in Wayne Ellington could bring fans to the arena (since Ellington is originally from Philadelphia), along with some much needed outside shooting.
Trade Option No. 3 — Troy Murphy & T.J. Ford
Troy Murphy and T.J. Ford for Elton Brand and Lou Williams.
Why make this trade?
Danny Granger is dying for some help in Indiana and Williams and Brand could provide it. Murphy could spread the floor for Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala to do what they do best: drive to the basket. Ford is just an expiring contract at this point but he could be a good fit with the Sixers' point guard troubles.
Trade Option No. 4 — Three Lakers for Dalambert
Jordan Farmar, Adam Morrison, and Sasha Vujacic for Samuel Dalembert.
Why make this trade?
Two expiring contracts and a playmaking guard, something the Sixers have been dying to get. The Sixers should take this trade in a heartbeat considering they've been dying to get Marreese Speights more playing time.
The Lakers have been wanting a backup for Andrew Bynum. Lakers fans: this is a high price for an insurance guy, but is it worth the risk to have Bynum get injured again and be stuck with Gasol at the center? This is the Lakers' year and Dalembert could provide stability to their roster.
Trade Option No. 5 — Luke Ridnour and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Luke Ridnour and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute for Thaddeus Young and Jason Kapono.
Why make this trade?
Similar to the reason why the Sixers would acquire T.J Ford, Ridnour could be a good fit, but they like his expiring contract. Trading Young would allow Iguodala to play his pure position of small forward. Getting Mbah a Moute would fix their perimeter defense since they have a terrible time defending the three-point shot.
