Field Trip Diary: 1/16/10 Wrap-Up from Philadelphia

Lauren GreenCorrespondent IJanuary 24, 2010

For some reason I thought that I had posted this already...but it never made it up or something.  Anyway, here's the last part of the Field Trip diary I kept while I was at the NSCAA convention in Philadelphia last week.  It's not very heavy on events, but it involves a lot of thank you's that definitely needed to be said.  So without further ado, the wrap up from the NSCAA convention!

We opted out of going to the NSCAA Women’s Soccer breakfast by default of needing more sleep.  So therefore, it’s back to sleep for me.

Time to start packing up and get ready to check out of the hotel.  We’re pretty sure we’re not going to go over to the All-American Luncheon because after last night, not much is ever going to compare to that experience.

Well we’re at Starbucks now.  Laine is transcribing my interviews so that I could work on typing up this diary and finishing it up.  I really can’t believe it’s truly over.

Finally finished typing up everything from this incredible weekend.  If anyone would have told me three months ago that this was going to happen and be this amazing, I’m not sure I would have been able to believe them.

Everything was incredible.  It was a wonderful learning opportunity with the lectures and the overall experience of being a member of the media at such a fantastic event.  It definitely was well worth missing classes to do it (don’t tell my professors that though)!

I think that now would be an appropriate time to send out some major thank you’s:

Todd Civin at Bleacher Report for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.  This was such an incredible opportunity and I’m so happy to have started writing for Bleacher Report.

Rob Penner with league communications for all his help throughout the event, checking in to make sure we had what we needed for this event and for allowing us to cover the draft for Bleacher Report.

Heather Bouzon at PUMA for connecting with us in regards to the unveiling party.  It was a fantastic event to have been a part of and I had a great time.

Laine Schmid for everything this weekend!  Taking pictures, transcribing interviews and coming down for the convention.  It would have been a lot more challenging otherwise, and I had a blast at the entire convention.

Kat Galsim and Charlotte Mace for the ride back to the hotel (haha).  And for everything you guys did this week too.  Pictures, videography, everything.  You guys did an amazing job and I can’t wait to see everything go up this week.

All the PR managers, especially John Archibald, Gloria Averbuch, Christa Mann, Crystal Fukomoto, Elly Deutch, and Kenzo Bergeron for all their time and their help in securing interviews with the draft picks.

The coaches and GMs for taking time to speak with me and allowing me to introduce myself.

Lastly, to all of the players for taking time to talk to me and for their patience when I couldn’t manage to get my recorder to work properly.  It was amazing getting to speak with all of you and I wish you the best of luck in the upcoming WPS season!

The NSCAA and the WPS for putting on some amazing events.  I was so lucky to be able to be a part of it all and had a blast doing it.

And if I missed anyone: THANK YOU!

This was easily one of the most (if not the most) incredible experiences of my life.  It was the first time I’d been able to go to an event and cover it in person.

And before this week, I had done the majority of my interviews on the phone.  It was interesting to get to do them in person and started off as a challenge for me.  Eventually, it became so easy as soon as I got the hang of it.  I just had so much fun covering the events that it never actually felt like work.

Well that’s going to be a wrap from the NSCAA convention in Philadelphia, the WPS draft, PUMA party, and everything in between.  Somehow though, I think that this is only the beginning of what is going to be an absolutely awesome preseason and an amazing WPS season.

Make sure you guys come back and check out all the draft coverage that should be going up in the next couple of weeks.  I think I may have enough information for the next month (just kidding…I think).
