In a league of big time trades, none was bigger in the offseason than the trade of Roy Halladay. However, you have to wonder if the price the Phils paid to get him was really worth it?
Late in the year last season, the Phillies got Cliff Lee from the Indians. Lee was lights out last year, posting a 7-4 record with an ERA just above 3.00 for the Phils. So it seemed strange to offer one great SP for another great SP.
The worst part of it for the Phillies was losing some quality players from their farm system. Up and coming SP Kyle Drabek and power-hitting OF Michael Taylor both left for Toronto. The Phillies did pick up a great RP in Phillippe Aumont from the Mariners.
All in all, the Phillies got their guy. Halladay is one of the top five guys in the league, if not higher. But we'll see if the price the Phillies paid to get him will be worth it in the long run.
