When I look back at my years as a young boy who enjoyed watching wrestling with my dad anytime I could, I remember a time when wrestling was fun for the whole entire family, story lines were fresh and it wasn't all ways the same rerun trash like in todays wrestling.

It actually had entertainment value and you weren't limited to just one particular brand of wrestling, you had ECW, WCW, AWA and of course WWF (which is now WWE) to choose from. Each brand had superstars the others didn't and it made for intense cross-brand rivalries.

Ratings wars, different story lines; you couldn't ask for more if you were a wrestling fan, but all that has changed now. Vince McMahon now officially owns what was formerly WCW and ECW.

And now its: steroids, wrestlers dead because of roid rage, awful story lines, more drama then a daytime soap opera, and former stars defecting to other brands or just flat out retiring from the business

It's no wonder why what was once so entertaining has fallen flat into the ratings toilet—such a shame.

  1. I think the reason is that WWE feels they don't have to try anymore. There competition is gone now. They think, watch WWE or no wrestling at all. Thats why I'm glad TNA is around now. Once TNA gains more ground WWE will start stepping up their game again. The winners here? US!!

  2. The WWE has been absolutely brutal for years. I also find it unwatchable. Just watching the old days on MSG Classics makes one realize how far it's fallen. Back in the 80's, it was a show and the top guys - Flair, Hogan, Savage, Andre, etc. - knew how to perform. Today, it's just a bunch of smoke and mirrors and politics. Does anyone really care about guys like HHH and Randy Orton?

Ted Turner, please come back to the wrasslin' business.

  3. I wouldn't say the competition has in fact gone away but Mcmahon makes the wrestlers do shows all most every other night w/o rest, which IMO burns them out. but Mcmahon feels that if they are making
the kind of money he is paying them to wrestle..Then they can work the grueling schedule until they're
    contract expires

which is why many have left WWE and went to T.N.A. while others left because of story lines they felt weren't appropriate and of course the allegations that Vince is feeding his wrestlers steroids. All those things in my opinion are a large part of why WWE has gone down hill while T.N.A. is rising slowly up
    the ratings charts

  4. Good article... I agree with everything you said. I to used to be a huge WWF fan back in the day.

  5. Thanks Jordan I to used to be a huge WWE fan back when there was no steroid scandals and story lines were actually funny..but now all I see is a business that was once on the top of the wrestling world diving
to it's doom because of so many issues, Issues that Vince Mcmahon him self is not willing to admit to or
fix and the more it spins out of control, The faster that crash dive takes place and newer wrestling shows
like T.N.A. take over and never look back

  6. I strongly agree to this article, wwe is getting boring , and it is not as exciting to watch like it used to be when bret hart, desiel, razor ramon, and other great wrestlers where there. WWE has more untalent and underrated wrestlers like cody and holly. Vince needs to hire more athletic, talent, and aggressive wrestlers. He needs to make wwe as thrilling and very exciting to watch. First, stop making wwe a soap opera, get rid of the storylines between edge and vickie, who cares about how they feel about each other, this is a very ridiculous storyline ever. Second, you need to hire more rated tagteams, like the hardyboyz , Cody and holly are not good tagteam champions. Third, Vince maybe you think giving money away is exciting to watch, but what i think would make it more exciting is if you will let the fans vote for the main event for monday night raw. Here's mine, Randy Orton vs. chris jericho for the intercontinental title.

  7. Fact of the matter is this, all TNA has so much more young talent. Once more fans get a look at TNA, WWE is going to be in a world of hurt. Vince, TNA is not for sale. You better step your game up. P.S. Edge is highly over rated and Vicki Guerrero is just really awful.

  8. iT IS NOT ALL ABOUT STORYLINES AND PROMOS... THE FACT IS THAT THE WRESTLERS TODAY ARE GARBAGE! YOU CANNOT REPLACE WRESTLERS OF THE PAST (HOGAN SAVAGE AUSTIN THE ROCK). WRESTLERS TODAY ARE TRYING TO HARD AND IT JUST FALLS FLAT. YOU WANNA SEE THE RATINGS GO UP VINCE? FIRE THE NOBODYS AND BRING BACK THE ORIGINALS!

  9. wwe has no competiton. tna will never get to that level. i still think that 1999 was the best year ever, escpecially with mcmahon vs austin and the ministry of darkness stable.

  10. I disagree BO story lines have a lot to do with it and part of that problem is you have Triple H who is a part of that writers guild, who makes up the story lines..and can easily pencil him self in as world champ anytime he feels because he is married to the bosses daughter and father to his grandchild.

not to take away that he does make a better champion then some of the others such as John Cena or Edge, but IMO that is to much power for him to have, if we wants to be a writer then step down for a
while and just do behind the scenes stuff..write the story lines but as Martin eluded to in his comment the story lines should be less about love and idiotic stuff you would find on a daytime soap opera and
    more about wrestling

Which is why WCW was so popular back when it was a independent company, because the focus was more on the wrestling and less on the story lines, they didn't burn out long time standing feuds and it
seemed like every star had a shot at winning some type of gold wether it be the United states title or
    tag team gold

my point is the variety was better when it was less drama and more wrestling more stars got chances to take on the some of the elite of the business, and the focus was on entertainment all of those things
which I think WWE has forgotten about

  11. I love how people blame the Benoit incident on roid rage when it was pretty much proven that his actions were over the courese of three days and weren't the spur-of-the-moment sort that roid rage would cause.

  12. What are you talking about Ryan? nobody here is talking about how Chris Benoit went mental and killed his family because of steroid use, we are talking about why the WWE is no longer any more
    fun to watch
