You Don't Like Raw? Why Not Watch Smackdown!?

Week after week I come on this site and people are just droning on about how 'poor' Raw was. People just keep moaning about how WWE is PG and why it is that Hornswoggle keeps appearing and ruining endless segments and interacting with the equally childish DX. People moan about the guest host's, how they know nothing about wrestling and how they lower the quality of the show.

All of the aforementioned points are valid. Raw is not what it was because of those things. But is it really that bad? I mean Raw may have some really stupid moments where it insult's our intelligence but overall the quality is still there. By quality I mean Randy Orton, Cena, Legacy, The Miz, Jack Swagger, MVP, Kingston, Maryse, and perhaps even Sheamus and Bourne. I will be honest here, Raw without Jericho is a Raw below par.

But week after week we see it. Randy Orton rescues Raw. It seems to be that every time he appears, the wrongs turn to rights. We are talking about a wrestler with genuine character, ability and can tell a story in the ring. God knows where Raw would be without him. This is why I believe Raw needs Edge. Edge is another guy with character and would truly add to the show (as long as he is a heel).

Maryse provides entertainment on Raw in her own way, she is devious, cunning, her entrance is great, she is good in the ring and she looks stunning. She is not PG. We then move onto the Miz. His promo on Raw the other week was delivered perfectly, he is getting better and better every week in the ring and I now believe he is out-shining his ex-tag partner. The Miz is great to watch, as is Legacy due to the interaction amongst themselves and not to mention their friendship with Mr. Orton.

But being fair, Hornswoggle is a step too far. Words cannot express how sick and tired I am of this midget running around backstage with DX with his stupid DX gear on. It gets worse when he 'talks'. I knew WWE were PG, but not Universal. How are we (as adult fans) supposed to enjoy this, it is insulting to our intelligence and makes WWE into nothing more than a kiddies TV show. I'm afraid the same goes for DX themselves. I have never found them funny, I feel that HBK and HHH hold each other back in this role and I cannot wait for them to break up.

So why not just watch Smackdown!? People spend time criticising Raw every week but either they don't watch Smackdown! or don't want to be positive about it. Smackdown! is how wrestling should be. You get 2 hours of practically solid in-ring work both in wrestling and angles. Every time I tune in to Smackdown! I feel like it is true wrestling I am watching. Some of the matches are simply brilliant. PG seems not to have come to Smackdown!. You get CM Punk delivering great promo's about being straight-edge, shaving peoples head-off and then wrestling a good match. I have not seen Punk wrestle a bad match since he turned heel, it has been the making of him as a star. You also get Drew McIntyre, of whom I am not a big fan, but I do admire his in-ring work and his persona, even if I don't like it. Then we have John Morrison, ever impressive in the ring. Dolph Ziggler is one of the few wrestlers to have a personality in wrestling and he puts on some spell-binding matches each and every week (watch his matches with Mysterio). Then of course we have Rey Mysterio himself, I hate the guy, but again I appreciate just how good he is and the quality of the matches he puts on. The same goes with Batista, ever since the heel turn, Batista has been even more fantastic and his character is a reason in itself to tune in every week.

Then there is the women's division, which has far more depth than the Raw equivalent with Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Layla, Michelle McCool and  Natalya, all of which are experienced quality wrestlers.  Vickie Guerrero is great at creating heat, and is another important character who makes the show must see TV.

Then theres the Hart Dynasty, an up and coming faction who put on good matches and are developing great character. We must consider Matt Hardy and Kane, neither of whom ever get a push (even though deserving of one) but always put on good matches no matter what the opponent. What about Chris jericho? The best in the world at what he does? Almost certainly. A pure natural in the ring and on the mic. Then theres the world champion himself. Undertaker is enough on his own to get me to watch Smackdown!. The man seems to get better with age and is a true great of the business.

So there you have it. If you don't like Raw, turn over to Smackdown! because it is practically the complete opposite. I would go as far as to say that it is now the 'A' show in terms of wrestling quality, and I feel a move to the USA network would work wonders. Every year WWE tries to give Smackdown! the short end of the stick, but last year Smackdown! was and has this year been simply incredible and has been everything that Raw is not. This is why I rate the WWE product currently, you have a choice of two shows providing completely different things, which is why I watch both, to get the best of both worlds.
