The Cubs beat the Orioles 7-4 behind big games by both Jim Edmonds and Geovany Soto. Jim Edmonds hit a two-run home run and walked three times during the game as Geovany Soto drove in three RBIs and went 2-for-3 for the night.
The Cubs got on the board early in the first when Aramis Ramirez hit a single that drove in Ryan Theriot soon after, Geovany Soto hit a single of his own which drove in both Lee and Ramirez. Jim Edmonds scored the fourth run on a Mark Dersosa single to take a 4-0 lead.
The Orioles then came up in the top of second to score two runs on a Jay Payton home run to make the score 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning the Cubs then added two runs of their own the first coming when Edmonds grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Ryan Theriot the second run came in on a Soto single that scored Lee and make the score 6-2.
Jay Payton hit another two-run home run in the top of the 4th to put the Orioles within two runs at 6-4. The Cubs added an insurance run on a Jim Edmonds home run that gave the Cubs a 7-4 lead and an eventual win.
Ted Lilly put in seven innings of work allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two in route to his 8th win on the season. Kerry Wood who worked the ninth struck out the side and picked up his 20th save on the season.
As for Matt Albers who pitched for Brian Burress he lasted 1/3 of a inning allowing four earned runs on three hits while striking out one and walking one. He did take the lost and fell to 3-3 on the season.
Today the Cubs will send Jason Marquis to the mound who is 6-3 with a 4.43 era as Radhames Liz who is 1-0 with a 6.27 era goes for the Orioles. Game time is set for 1:20 pm ct.
