Like most NFL teams, the San Francisco 49ers are going to look to improve in a lot of areas this offseason. With two first round selections in the draft and an owner in Jed York who is driven to see his club return to the glory days the franchise experienced under his Uncle Eddie Debartalo Jr., there ought to be plenty of new talent to don the Red and Gold.
Improvements on the offensive line, special teams, and pass rush are just some of San Francisco's needs this offseason.
Through the draft and free agency, the 49ers will look to add various players to the roster that will help them get over the hump and past the Arizona Cardinals to win the NFC West.
However, no matter who the 49ers add to their squad over the offseason, there are numerous players already on the roster who will need to step up and play critical roles if San Francisco wants to reach the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Now obviously certain positions get the spotlight and the players the 49ers have at those spots will need to play up to expectations next season, but the less talked about players have to get the job done as well.
That said, there are five 49ers in particular that need to step up their game and play increased roles in 2010.
