Following a season that saw Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek put up phenomenal numbers, Osgood leading the team to a Stanley Cup victory, Jimmy Howard priming himself as the goaltender of the future and offseason rumors of (former MSU goalie) Ryan Miller coming to the Wings still within earshot, the Red Wings drafted a goalie?
With their first pick (No. 30 overall), Detroit took OHL goalie prospect Thomas McCollum.
According to the Central Scouting Bureau, McCollum was the best "North American goaltender." He was only the third goalie that the Wings have ever drafted in the first round.
But what does this mean for the Wings? Well, the rumors of the team acquiring Ryan Miller could just turn out to be a pipe dream. Or maybe the Sabres will want one of Detroit's young goalies in return.
Either way, they could let McCollum develop in the minors while Osgood finishes up his career in Detroit with Howard as his backup.

Those Miller rumors are just horse crap, they have only come to fruition because he is from Michigan... I definitely would not want him any where near the Wings as he is vastly over rated and will be enormously overpaid once he hits the market. Say NO to Miller!

I would trust Ken Holland at this point...if you look at it we have no depth at goalie ever since Hasek retired and Stefan Liv left the club to go back to sweden. Not to mention that Daniel Larrson and Jimmy Howard are not developing the way we had thought they would, thus it was a great pick to snag a highly ranked goalie out of the OHL.

Thanks for the comments. It'll be nice to see if any of this comes through. It'll be interesting to see if the Wings per sue any goaltenders this summer. It will also be interesting to see if any moves are made to obtain young goalies like Montoya etc.
