Cubs Should Sign Jim Edmonds
Jim Edmonds wants a swan song with St. Louis, but I wouldnโt mind seeing him as a Cub again.
Chicago needs a fourth outfielder, that role player with a little defense and just enough offense.
Edmonds has both, and more importantly, heโs willing to play for the league minimum, which certainly wonโt be the case with a Jermaine Dye or Xavier Nady, or even Reed Johnson.
Itโs fair to question Edmondsโ durability. Heโs 39-years-old and sat out all of last season, but I loved what he did with the Cubs two years ago (.256, 19 HR & 49 RBI) and I thought he should have been resigned for โ09.
At the very least, he couldnโt have been worse than Bradley statistically, and thereโs no comparing clubhouse chemistry between the two, either.
Edmondsโ game has always been a good fit a little olโ Wrigley Field: a small centerfield and plenty of wind complementing his upper-cut swing.
So Iโd let the sun set on Edmondsโ career on the North Side, heโd be a welcomed addition and I could still wear my Edmonds t-shirt with pride, too!
