2008 Impreza WRC does first asphalt stint
Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT) test-driver Markko Martin tested the all-new Subaru Impreza WRC in Sardinia, Italy in the car's first time on tarmac surface.
The team stayed in the region as Martin drove the car for four days. “The initial feeling was really very good,” said Martin. “We worked on improving the performance during the week and learned a lot about how it works and how it responds to set-up changes. I think there are just a few small areas of fine-tuning to come, a few little things that we need to do, but I think it will be very good. It’s only the first time out in these conditions but I think the car will be competitive on asphalt.”
Martin has been the sole test-driver in the development of the new car which made a spectacular debut at the Acropolis Greece Rally where ace Petter Solberg finished second.
The testing was in preparation for the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, which is August 15-17.
