Oh Waterloo! A little fun at ABBA's expense here because the Red Bull Air Race planned for Stockholm on July 5th-6th has been cancelled.
In a release last week, a late change in race location on the Riddarfjarden in Stockholm has compromised the ability for the event to be carried out safely. Bernd Loidl, Red Bull Air Race CEO expressed his regrets for the bad news.
For those that bought a ticket to the event, they will be refunded. Obviously, in a sport that uses several dimensions, safety is paramount so that both pilots and spectators do not get hurt.
The Red Bull Air Race has had 33 races in its short existence without an incident, and it shows by putting the lives of the people who run it and watch it at the top of their priorities.
Overall, a real shame for the Air Race to not make its debut in Scandinavia, but I'm hoping to see a successful and fun race be carried out in Rotterdam in about four weeks time.
