Beat the Streak: June 26

Barry BealCorrespondent IJune 26, 2008

Not a bad way to start this little picking game. It’s always nice to read the crawl on ESPN and see your guys doing well. It kind of reminds me of fantasy football season, which is right around the corner.

Yesterday’s Picks

Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers – 2-4, Triple

David Wright, New York Mets – 2-3, 2 HR, 3 RBI

And now here are today’s selections. I had some trouble narrowing this down to two guys today. If you’re not feeling great about either of these two, Mark Loretta and Placido Polanco are also viable options.

Carl Crawford, Tampa Bay Rays

Teams are having a ‘devil’ of a time trying to get this Ray out lately. Crawford is hitting .480 (12-25) in his past six games, including two homers last night. He’s also a lifetime .333 hitter against Florida pitcher Mark Hendrickson, who has allowed 99 hits in 86 innings this season. That should give Crawford five plate appearances.

Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers

I’m quickly becoming an Ian Kinsler fan. Two days of doing this column and two days this Ranger has appeared. He’s hitting .833 (5-6) against the Astros’ Wandy Rodriguez. Three of those five hits are doubles. Rodriguez’s opponent’s batting average is at .235, but Kinsler’s success rate suggests he’s figured this guy out.
