In trying to predict what the remaining moves for the Boston Red Sox may be, the best place to start is the 25-man roster.

Let's start with the pitching staff.

Every team in the majors goes with a minimum of 12 pitchers. Boston's first 11 looks like this:

Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Clay Buchholtz, Tim Wakefield, Daniel Bard, Hedeki OkaJima, Manny Delcarmen, Ramon Ramirez, and Jonathan Papelbon.

That brings us to the first open spot on the roster.  Here are the list of candidates:

Boof Bonser, Junichi Tazawa, Fabio Castro, Micheal Bowden, Scott Atchison, and Ramon A. Ramirez.

My best guess here would be that Bonser gets the spot, as he is now 100 percent recovered from shoulder surgery and his fastball is back to 94 mph.

Now, for something a little less clear, the hitters.

As with the pitching staff, every team has a minimum of 12. It consists of the nine
starters and three bench players.

Boston's guaranteed spots look like this:

Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Marco Scutaro, Adrian Beltre, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Cameron, J.D. Drew, David Ortiz, and Victor Martinez. Followed by a bench of Jeremy Hermida, Jason Varitek, and Bill Hall.

That leaves the second and final unclaimed spot on the roster.  If the Sox do not trade Mike Lowell, he takes that spot and the roster is set.

If they do trade Lowell, they have a choice to make.

They can add a 13th pitcher from the list above, or they could add another hitter like Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick, or Tug Hulett.

Since the three guaranteed spots are a good mix with one lefty, one righty, and a switch hitter, that leaves their options open.

My best guess here would be Jed Lowrie (provided he's healthy) because they would need a backup shortstop.  While Hall is capable of playing shortstop, he hasn't played the position in a number of years, and it's probably not his strong suit.

So those are my predictions for the final two spots on the roster.  Of course, there is always the possibility of additional trades, but that's the way I see it as I look at the team's current roster.
