2010 QB Draft Prospects: Possible Seahawk Picks

Ryan CookJan 13, 2010

With the 2010 draft set to get underway in the spring, many teams are looking ahead to who they are considering for early round picks.

Although Seattle doesn't have the first pick in the draft, they do have the sixth, and this can give them a handy quarterback pick up that some Seahawk fans may have thought couldn't happen.

Pete Carroll is new to the team, so he may not have the requisite experience to make a snap decision should it present itself in April.

One thing is for certain: The Seahawks need a young backup quarterback they can rely on and build over time as Matt Hasselbeck enters the final years of his career.

Jimmy Clausen

Former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was a guy that many perceived as a "could be." On a struggling Charlie Weis Irish—coached team, Clausen had no problem running and throwing the ball when his team needed it. Topped off with superstar wide receiver Golden Tate, Clausen was never short of targets.

What if he became a Seahawk?

He most likely he wouldn't be starting. Hasselbeck is still Seattle's guy, and barring an injury, Clausen would more than likely spend his rookie year on the bench.

A native Californian, Clausen would at least be close to home if he were to sign with the Seahawks. Similar to Notre Dame, Seattle has two dependent wide receivers with Deion Branch and T.J Houshmandzadeh, enabling Clausen to thrive in this similar environment.

Sam Bradford

Are Clausen's achievements enough to float Seahawk fans' boats?

Surely a former Heisman Trophy winner could fulfill that expectation.

Sam Bradford is predicted to be the number two quarterback in this year's draft, behind none other than Jimmy Clausen. Bradford is experienced in big games—something Clausen is not due—to Notre Dame's mediocre years.

Watching tape of the Sooners play—prior to Bradford's injury—the Sooners were great on the run, but even better on deep routes.  Once again, two dependable receivers in Seattle could prove Sam to be a great pick for the Seahawks.

Jevan Snead

This guy is someone that many people forget about.  It seems like the better season your respective team had, the more noticed you get heading into the draft.

Former Ole Miss Rebel quarterback Jevan Snead has been predicted by CBSSports.com to be taken as the number one pick in the draft. Whether it's due to his pocket presence or his speed, it's hard to determine, but he is a guy that Carroll should also look at.

Snead's career highlights and awards aren't quite as prestigious as Bradford's, but he's gotten the job done time and time again for Ole Miss. The Rebels haven't returned the favor, having fallen from grace in recent years.

In Seattle, his career could go 50—50.  To me, he is one of those shaky guys that can lose a lot of confidence when things go wrong.  With a rebuilding Seahawk team, Snead may not be the best fit.

Tim Tebow

Like McCoy, the Seahawks would have to assume that he doesn't get taken by a team with an earlier pick; however, I still don't see Tebow making a clean fit in Seattle.

For a guy that is used to the "best of the best" in college, it would be a sour feeling to go into a team that is currently struggling in the run department.

Although some Seahawk fans would welcome Tebow with wide arms, I see him as a better fit for St. Louis or Kansas City.

Colt McCoy

Coming off the devastating Alabama loss is still probably plaguing McCoy's mind.  However, it's important that he gets his head back into the game and see what is important.

Provided that McCoy isn't taken earlier by St. Louis or Detroit, his talent could come in handy for Seattle. Like Philadelphia's McNabb and Vick's quarterback play, I imagine a Hasselbeck—McCoy swap every so often.

With McCoy able to throw perfect deep balls, and Hasselbeck great on the scramble and screen passes, it could be a fun duo to watch.
