If I could be any General Manager in the NBA, I would be the GM of the Miami Heat. Yes, the Heat only won fifteen games last season. However, the team has arguably the league’s most electric shooting guard in Dewayne Wade. By using him as the cornerstone for the future, it would be far easier to build a team with the Heat.
As GM of the Heat, I wouldn't trade the number two pick unless it came in a great package including a proven star and two picks. With the second pick as it is, I would draft a big man. The Heat will need a center in the very near future as Mourning gets closer to his retirement. As of right now, there isn't anyone on the roster worthy of stepping in and starting.
Anthony Joel, who played in twenty-four games last year,is not the answer. I can’t say that Brook Lopez is the answer or another tree in the center. The best route to go for the Heat in this draft would be Beasley at number two. Or, they could trade down and get a proven big man to fill the void created by Shaq's departure. If you draft Beasley at two, the starting five could look something like this: PG Williams, SG Wade, SF Beasley, PF Marion and at C Zo. The only real weakness will remain the center position in years to come unless the Heat pull off a monster deal that would get them a certified big man in the middle.
