The Steelers have made their first moves around their 2010 roster. They have signed several players to the practice squad. As important as who they signed, is who they did not.

First of all last years 7th round pick, A.Q. Shipley, did not sign a contract. Rumors are that he was offered one, but refused to sign. Now comes word that the Moon High and Penn State grad has bolted cross state to sign with the Eagles.

Shipley never made it on the field during the regular season in his rookie year. But then again neither did top 3rd round pick Kraig Urbek. Many questioned whether Shipley was NFL material. His arms were said to be too short and at only 304 pounds a bit of a lightweight for center.

I for one was eager to see Shipley given a shot. How much worse than Justin Hartwig could he be? Anyway, I hope this means the Steelers will be looking to upgrade the center position with a veteran this off season.

On another practice squad note the Steelers signed Piotr Czech. Czech was in training camp last year and I thought showed he could be an NFL kicker. With Jeff Reed a free agent, his bouts with public drunkenness and most of all his pathetic kick offs, maybe it is time to give a good look at another kicker. I would like to see Czech given a fair shot at the job.

One other thing to mention is that Issac "Redzone" Redmond was resigned as well.  If Willie Parker leaves, the Steelers need a back up running back. Lets give redzone a shot at it!
