TSN is reporting that Toronto Maple Leafs centre Kyle Wellwood has been claimed off waivers by the Vancouver Canucks.
Wellwood was placed on waivers yesterday after a disappointing, injury-plagued season which saw him put up just 21 points. Vancouver can retain the restricted free agent's rights by giving him a qualifying offer before Tuesday, when the NHL's free agency period begins.
- B/R Ticket Guide
He could be a good fit on a Canucks squad that is desperate for offense, especially since they will lose Brendan Morrison to free agency.
However, Vancouver would be well advised to scratch Wellwood for games against Dion Phaneuf and the Calgary Flames, if they are interested in keeping him alive.
More to follow.
