Is Tony Stewart Thinking About Joining Hendrick Motorsports Next Year?

Catherine WorrallCorrespondent IJune 24, 2008

I have heard a lot of rumors about Tony Stewart possibly joining Hendrick Motorsports for 2009 because of his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Tony Stewart? That would pretty much set a whole new standard for a "Superteam". As if the current driver lineup wasn't big enough.

However I have also heard that Joe Gibbs wants Tony Stewart to stay in his company. A year remains on Stewart's current contract with JGR.

Yet Tony really wants to drive a Chevy, not Toyota (JGR switched brands from Chevy to Toyota this past offseason; and has put them in victory lane and on top of the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings).

If Tony Stewart plans to stay with Joe Gibbs, would the Coach consider switching back to Chevy and not using Toyota anymore?

Tony's team is powered by Chevy in the World of Outlaws and has been performing well so far.

I am curious: Do you think that Tony Stewart might join Hendrick Motorsports if Casey Mears leaves (which appears likely), or stay at Joe Gibbs with Toyota?
