Shaq Bids Fairwell to his Badge

Chris HesterSenior Analyst IJune 24, 2008

Hope your rap was fun Mr. O'Neal.

Just one day after a video of Shaquille O'Neal "freestyling" about former team mate Kobe Bryant made its way to the internet, Shaq has been stripped of his special deputy's badge.

"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."

During a rap session that was recently posted on, Shaq pokes fun at Kobe with the line "Kobe couldn't do it without me".

Had that been the end of it there may not have been a problem.  Unfortunately, Mr. O'Neal continued and in the process used language that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio found unacceptable.

So there it is, no more Deputy Shaq roaming the streets of Arizona fighting crime.

On the other hand, honestly, what was Shaquille O'Neal doing with a badge in the first place?  Is law enforcement considered a game now?  Is this a Celeb Reality show?

Congratulations Mr. O'Neal, you have managed to turn what should be an exciting time in the NBA into another spectacle with the focus on you.  Well played sir.
