Toronto Maple Leafs Place Andrew Raycroft and Kyle Wellwood on Waivers

Cliff Fletcher announced today that backup goalie Andrew Raycroft as well as oft-injured forward Kyle Wellwood have been placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This appears to be the first steps toward their potential buyouts, which would signal the end of their Toronto careers.

Wellwood is a restricted free agent July 1, who the Maple Leafs have shown no signs of negotiating with.

A player must be placed on waivers before being bought out.  If no one takes the player, and they clear waivers (in this case, Wednesday at 12 p.m.), the Maple Leafs then have the option of sending the players to the minors or buying them out.

I will have more on this in Maple Leafs Notes later tonight.
