2009 – 2010 Regular Season is in the books. One of the hot topics amongst sports fans will be who deserves which awards. I would like to compare my end of the season winners to the mid season award predictions I did after week 9.

Some of the players on my end of the season list jumped up the ranks with strong second halves to the regular season.

Offensive Player of the Year

95567279

Mid Season Order

3. Cedric Benson
2. Drew Brees
1. Chris Johnson.

This years Offensive Player of the Year allowed nothing to change from the beginning, middle, and end of the season.

I believe without question this is Johnson’s award because of the type of numbers he put up on passing challenged offense.

Johnson became the 6th player to rush for over 2,000 yards and also broke Marshall Faulk’s record for yards from the line of scrimmage.

Defensive Player of the Year

95566414

Mid Season Order

3. Darren Sharper
2. Jared Allen
1. Elvis Dumervil

Defensive Player of the Year was a tight race at mid season and finished the same way with any number of players qualifying as the winner.

The player I selected for this years defensive standout was not on the mid season list but there is no denying Charles Woodson was game changer all season.

Charles Woodson was tied for league high 9 interceptions and returned 3 of them to the house.

Rookie of the Year

95492528

Mid Season Order

3. Austin Collie
2. Mark Sanchez
1. Percy Harvin

No one had an unforgettable rookie season this year but several players on both sides of the ball took solid steps in having a successful career in the NFL.

My thought on Rookie of the Year has not changed from the mid season prediction in Percy Harvin.

Sanchez might be the starting quarterback to a playoff team but that team is all about running the ball and playing strong defense.

Harvin’s value really stood out when he missed and was limited in action for a few games late in the season. Not only did Favre struggle but the kickoff return was less than average.

Coach of the Year

95567560

Mid Season Order

3. Jim Caldwell
2. Sean Payton
1. Josh McDaniels

This award left me feeling very conflicted due to the fact that all three of the coaches I selected at mid season had a let down in the second half.

Caldwell gave up on a perfect season, Payton couldn’t get the team motivated to win a game in the last three weeks of the season, and McDaniels coached the 3rd team in NFL history to start 6 – 0 and miss the playoffs.

After giving it some thought I selected Norv Turner, who at mid season when I did the awards was in danger of losing his job.

Turner helped lead the Chargers to an 11 game winning streak to end the season.

League MVP

95566309

Mid Season Order

1B. Peyton Manning
1A. Drew Brees
1. Brett Favre

As I stated at mid season this award could go any which way and I wouldn’t be mad, I gave Favre the edge at the midway point.

All 3 of these quarterbacks have put up outstanding numbers, Favre probably the most all around complete season.

I wish we could take these 3 guys and grade there play throughout the playoffs but then it wouldn’t be a regular season award.

At age 40 I am giving the edge to Brett Favre based on these facts; that no one thought he could post these kinds of numbers, that this is a young mans game, and that this was supposed to be Adrian Peterson’s team.
