An Ironic Playoff Prediction.
I could be like every other NFL fan and create a playoff prediction I think will nail me $500. But looking at some possible matchups, I'd rather create the ultimate ironic NFL playoffs imaginable. Irony is a sweet thing, it's like a boy in high school being rejected by a girl that ends up working for him. Do you see the sweet irony? Such as the one that exists in sports; there's no better matchup than a star player facing his former team and beating them, especially if they traded him or called him a 'has-been'.
It's also immensely ironic when a high rise team loses to a low rise team in the playoffs that they beat in the regular season. Or perhaps in the world of football, allowed to win and help make the playoffs. I continue in the slides ahead.
WIld Card Round- The Winners
Patriots beat Ravens in snowy Boston.
Jets beat stumbling Bengals.
Eagles beat Cowboys for first time this season. Wade Phillips goes 0-5 in playoffs and loses job.
Packers beat Cardinals.
Divisional Matchup- Jets beat Colts
Okay, now follow me here.
The Indianapolis Colts throw away a chance at 19-0 to rest their starters and keep them healthy for the playoffs, and in doing so effectively give the Jets a pass and a ticket to the playoffs. In hindsight, the Colts are responsible for the Jets making the playoffs.
The Jets go back to Indianapolis and beat the Colts, giving Manning his fourth career loss after a bye week.
Divisional Matchup- Chargers beat Patriots
Okay, this might not be that ironic, but you can't have everything go your way. However, the last time the Chargers did get the BYE they faced the Patriots and lost, payback?
Dvisional Matchup- Vikings beat Packers, Again.
Nothing stings more than a playoff loss.
Rodgers will surely shed tears after this loss.
Divisional Matchup- Saints beat Eagles
No team having lost their last 3 games of the regular season has made it to the Super Bowl.
However, the Saints do beat the Eagles as Bush out- duels Jackson in the STs department.
AFC Championship- Jets beat Chargers
Ah yes, when Rivers is heavily favored, he loses.
And Sanchez the rookie with 20 INTs makes it into the Super Bowl, becoming the first rookie QB to do so, who woulda thunk it?
NFC Championship- Vikings beat Saints
After years of playing with Favre, Darren Sharper, one of the great DBs of modern time, chose this season to leave the Minnesota Vikings.
Oh the irony.
Super Bowl XLIV- Vikings beat Jets
After 41 seasons, the Jets pick this year to return to the Super Bowl.
This year, a season after Tannenbaum did everything to bring Favre to the big apple.
Laughs all around as the old timer burns his former one year team.
