Ole Miss "McClustered" Oklahoma State in This Year's Cotton Bowl
Like an old Broadway actor, Dexter McCluster knows how to say goodbye and leave them wanting more as he ended his days with Ole Miss with a game that surely make the Rebels miss him and the rest of the SEC finally say, "Whew, thank God".
With 185 yards rushing and 45 receiving, he accounted for 230 yards total yards and left coach Houston Nutt and the fans wondering what the season could have been like if Nutt had leaned on him this heavily the whole season.
Both Ole Miss and Oklahoma State finished the season at 9-4 but it was clear by the end of the game who the best team was. The final score of 21-7 did not tell the whole story. The game was very much in doubt until late in the 4th quarter.
Why?
Because Ole Miss was still in a Christmas mood and gave the ball to the Cowboys on five different occasions to keep it close.
But in a game of what goes around comes around, late in the game Oklahoma State gave it back six times in the 4th quarter.
And for what McCluster was to the offense, Patrick Trahan was to the defense. The much traveled Trahan started as an Auburn Tiger, then went to a junior college before finding a home at linebacker with Ole Miss. When he wasn't scooping up fumbles for TD's, he was intercepting the ball.
Jevan Sneed had about a sorrier night than the other SEC West top quarterback Ryan Mallet of Arkansas, who also struggled. Sneed went 13 of 23 with three big interceptions.
With McCluster and Trahan leaving Houston Nutt is going to have reach deep in the bag to come up with some players to take their place for next season.
