Open Tryouts for Philadelphia: A Chance to Express Your Independence.

Phil AndrewsCorrespondent IJanuary 1, 2010

If playing professional soccer against the best female players in the world is your dream, then here is your chance to impress the coaching staff of the Philadelphia Independence.  Take advantage of the teams second open tryout, January 11-12.

The team actually hosted a very successful open tryout in early December and apparently identified several players as having the potential to make next season’s roster.

This opportunity will not only give those players who missed last months tryout a second chance, but also give the Independence staff a final chance to evaluate potential draft picks before the 2010 Women’s Pro Soccer Draft.

This years draft will take place January 15 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of American conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center. The Independence has the opportunity to pick up to nine players in the WPS Draft to help fill out the final roster spots for the 2010 season. The staff will use the open tryouts to help make their draft decisions.

All sessions will be run by Head Coach Paul Riley and players will be evaluated on their ability to perform in the high-intensity training environment.  The tryout is open to any player that completes the online registration and is at least age 18 as of March 1, 2010.  Interested players are required to pay a fee of $100.00.
