In this last year of the Noughties, there have been some outstanding female athletes.
From Serena Williams' brilliant win over her sister Venus in the Wimbledon final and her climb back up to the top, to hepathlete Jessica Ennis becoming Britain's best female athlete following her gold medal in the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Championships, 2009 has been a great year for sport.
However, there were three athletes in particular who stood out for this writer in 2009. They had the looks, and more importantly the talent, to beat even the likes of clichéd sexy athletes like Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic.
Yes, that is Amelie Mauresmo in the picture. A bit different from the bicep bulging tennis champion we're used to seeing, isn't it?
Well, that's because in 2009, tennis said goodbye to a truly brilliant player, as Mauresmo hung up her tennis boots and officially retired from the sport on Dec. 3, following a rather emotional press conference in Paris.
A former World No. 1, Mauresmo won two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon, both coming in 2006.
She gets a place on the list as a tribute to her achievements over the years, as well as her alluring looks which, in one way or another, have attracted the viewings of many male spectators over the years.
Go on, admit it. She doesn't look half bad in that picture, does she?
Marta Vieira da Silva is quite possibly the greatest female soccer player of all time.
She has won the FIFA Women's Player of the Year Award four times in a row (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), achieved Olympic silver medals in 2004 and 2008, and in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, she won both the Golden Ball award as the best player and the Golden Boot award as the top scorer.
Her performances this year have been as stellar as always, and it makes you wonder, what if soccer became a unisex sport?
No doubt the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Manchester United would be chomping at the bit to sign her!
She has been the most successful female soccer player of 2009, and with the amount of accolades she acquires, her face is never far away from the camera and media spotlight.
Forget the likes of Hope Solo and Heather Mitts, this sexy samba beauty is by far the sexiest female soccer player of 2009!
Of course, there is only one woman who has truly stood out this year, and boy does she look like a fine female in that picture!
South African 800m runner Caster Semenya has fought a colossal battle over her gender this year, with her fantastic talents on the track being overshadowed by doubts cast about her gender.
It is the question of the year: is Caster Semenya male or female? If you believe an anagram of her name, yes a secret man, then she's probably male.
But if you look at her now, she is every bit a beautiful female.
She is undoubtedly No. 1 on this list, for her achievements at the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Berlin were incredible.
Shrouded in a colossal amount controversy over her gender, Semenya brushed all that aside to take home the 800m women's gold medal with an astonishing time of 1:55.45 in the final.
There is no doubt that the fastest woman on the planet is by far the most successful and sexiest female athlete of the year.
Whilst not making the top three, Serena Williams also deserves a bit of a mention.
She fought her way back up to the top of tennis, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and regaining the World No. 1 position.
She's also much better looking than her sister Venus Williams!
