Martin Biron is the current Islanders backup Goaltender. Biron was 1 of 2 Goalies signed by the Islanders in the '09 off-season. The other was Dwayne Roloson.
Biron was signed as assurance by the Isles, while franchise Goalie Rick DiPietro was nursing his injuries. It was inevitable that when DiPi was healthy again, Biron would be moved.
Biron has struggled with the Islanders this year; just 2 wins in 17 games. But, don't discredit his career. He has twice reached the 30 win mark, most recently in '08 with the Flyers. His best year was when he posted 31 wins and a 2.22 GAA with the Buffalo Sabres.
Biron is said to be a player that is loved throughout the locker room. He's a funny jokester but more importantly an experienced veteran. What team making a playoff push wouldn't love him?
As DiPietro takes steps closer to dressing for the Islanders again, I ponder where we can send Biron and who we can get in return?
Jonathan Quick has 20 wins already; yes he's good! But wouldn't LA want a steady back-up in Biron come playoff time? What if the kid gets butterflies? Biron took Buffalo to a Stanley Cup, what has Quick done?
Justin Williams. I've loved this kid from when he played in our division with Philly. I feel like he hasn't reached his true potential yet and his best years are just around the corner. I can hear it now... " Williams to Tavares, SCORE"!!!
The Flyers have an injured goaltender in Ray Emery. Biron is familiar with Philly having played there just last year.
Scott Hartnell would be a great player in return. He will put up 20 goals he's not afraid to crash the boards. I would love him in an Isles uniform!
It's no secret that Montreal is going to get rid of Jaraslav Halak. They are going to need a tenured veteran to back up a struggling Carey Price if they're going to make a run of any sort.
Georges Laraque is the "brut" the Islanders lack in their lineup. They need a heavyweight to make sure that Tavares, Okposo and Bailey are protected at all times. He's listed at 6'4", 245 lbs and we all know he can fight! Throw in a 2nd rounder and I'd pull the trigger.
Tampa Bay is carrying two mediocre goalies in Mike Smith and Antero Nittymaki. Smith hasn't seen more than 15 in a single season, and Nittymaki's 23 win season was over 4 years ago.
With Radek Martinek out for the season, we can use some defensive help. Andrej Meszaros was always a noticeable skater in all the heated Islanders Senators rivalries. Gervais continues to struggle and I wouldn't mind Meszaros on the blue line.
Meszaros and 3rd Round Pick or Meszaros and Paul Ranger for Biron.
How are you not able to win with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry in your lineup? I know, your goaltending is terrible! Bring in Biron and give your city some hope.
Two words... THE MUSTACHE!
Martin Biron and Jon Sim for George Parros and Joffrey Lupul.
