Saturday afternoon was a tough one for Gator Nation.Florida lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 42-30 in Jacksonville. It was only the third time in my 18-year-old life that the Gators had been so unfortunate.
I was reminded of 1997, when Bulldog RB Robert Edwards ran all over UF. Knowshon Moreno filled the bill this weekend.
I talked all week at school about how the 5-3 Gators would roll the 6-2 Bulldogs. It was such a foregone conclusion that even Dawg fans were predicting defeat.
And then the game started.
I knew something was off when Georgia stormed down the field for a Moreno touchdown. In the end, Tim Tebow's Heisman chances washed away with his tears.
SuperTebow couldn't overcome the Bulldog defense—or his own defense, for that matter, which proved to be his Kryptonite.
Saturday marked the third straight awful outing for the Florida D. An unbelievable stat: In October, the Gators scored 89 points while giving up 99 to LSU, Kentucky, and Georgia.
Tebow was sacked six times and rushed 13 times for -15 yards. Nobody's supposed to hold SuperTebow under zero yards rushing.
By the time Moreno scored his third touchdown, I felt like I was watching a bad movie that wouldn't end. The freshman finished with 33 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
When I go back to school on Monday, I'll have to face the music. It'll be hard—but the Dawgs did "stick a hobnailed boot in the Gators' face and break their nose," to quote legendary Bulldogs radio announcer Larry Munson.
This Gator fan will lie low for a while and eat his humble pie—but that doesn't mean I don't still bleed Orange and Blue.
