There is nothing better than baseball rumors in June, is there? There are plenty of things going on in MLB that aren't happening on the baseball diamond. Here is the latest:
Matt Holliday
The recent trade rumors regarding Holliday have just been halted by the Denver Post. Holliday is a free agent at the end of next year, and he has been the subject of many trade rumors these past months.
Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd may just opt to sit the season out without discussing Holliday's future until the offseason. He would then make the decision whether or not to re-sign or trade Holliday, or simply let him walk away.
C.C. Sabathia
The many trade rumors concerning Sabathia just keep increasing, reports the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
The list of Sabathia suitors includes the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs. Three of those teams have recently had starting pitcher problems and are in need of another ace. The Yankees lost Wang, the Red Sox lost Colon, and the Cubs could lose Zambrano.
Unless the Indians can regain the ground they lost in the AL Central, Cleveland may be forced to trade away Sabathia.
Brandon Webb
Negotiations to bring Webb back after his contract expires have officially stopped. Webb and the Diamondbacks both say that they will continue after the season.
There is no report as to what caused them to end, but Webb says that the ongoing negotiations have been distracting to him.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies are looking to improve their starting rotation as they attempt to make a playoff push. They have inquired with various teams regarding pitchers, but because of their weak farm system may not be able to provide enough in any possible trade.
Philadelphia has contacted the Cleveland Indians regarding C.C. Sabathia, the Toronto Blue Jays regarding A.J. Burnett, the Cincinnati Reds regarding Bronson Arroyo, and the Seattle Mariners regarding Jarrod Washburn.
They have also asked the Seattle Mariners about Erik Bedard, who was recently put on the trading block according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.

Even with Zambrano due back in a couple weeks, I have to imagine the Cubs are players for CC. Rich Hill is closer to A ball than the Majors, so some of the depth just isn't there anymore, and no one has established themselves as the 3rd guy behind Zambrano and, surprisingly, Dempster. CC would be a legit 1b.

I can see the Cubs falling down and out of the race if they don't find someone to replace Zambrano while he's gone. And with the recent announcement that Chicago is willing and ready to pay more, I really believe that they might land CC.

Informative. I only knew about Holliday.

Interesting points here. There is a lot of talk about CC being dealt, which I think the Tribe need to do.

Add the Rangers to the dealings for C.C. Sabathia, they might not be huge contenders, with the BoSox, Yanks, and Cubbies involved in the dealings, but GM Jon Daniels has shown interest if Texas believes they can make a push for the AL Wild Card.
And as all Ranger fans will tell you, that is a big IF...

CC will be dealt in my opinion. The real question is where? Yankees and Cubs I think will battle it out, but we will see who wins him. Anyone who thinks CC is washed up is out of there mind. This guy's a horse and he would be a great addition to any staff and I think he could look good in a Yankees uniform. :)

I really think Chicago will end up with him. They certainly have the pockets...

Zambrano will be back. He will only miss two starts to be safe. Reports are all good. The Cubs most likely will make a move for a SP. CC probably will cost too much and the Cubs dont have enough in the system to offer the Indians. The most likely pitchers are Bedard or Maddux. IF.. Seattle were to work out a deal with the Cubs it would most likely include Rich Hill, Felix Pie and Sean Gallagher. Maybe even 3b Prospect Josh Vitters somewhere in the equation.
Maddux would come cheaper. With the Padres out of it, the Cubs could send Matt Murton whom the Padres have had interest in. Maybe through in Sean Marshall. It would take less to aquire Maddux again. The rotation would be Zambrano, Dempster, Lilly, Maddux, Marquis.

How about Livan Hernandez? Want him?

As time draws nearer and nearer to judgment day, I'm still hard headed.
I've recently heard the Rays and Athletics could be options since they are surprisingly in contention. With their deep farm systems, and the fact that they probably would be the least likely to re-sign him in the off-season, I wouldn't mind dealing him to one of those teams.
If it has to be one of the big gun suitors. I wouldn't mind the Cubs.

I don't think the Red Sox are big players in the Sabathia sweepstakes. They do have a pretty good farm system, and alot of good young pitching. However, their rotation is pretty much set even with the loss of Curt Schilling for the season. They still have Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Lester, Masterson. In addition they also have Clay Buchholz down at AAA, and Colon on the DL even though he did not pitch too poorly.
The Red Sox I think are in it just because the Yankees are in it. I think that this is just a mid season, less hyped Johan Santana type scenario, as the Sox won't give up Ellsbury, Lester, Buchholz for sure, and probably won't give up Masterson, Delcarmen, or Hansen for that matter either.
I don't think the Rays will land Sabathia because I dont think they would trade away a good chunk of their farm system for a player that will definately cost them alot in the offseason to re-sign.
I think that Sabathia will end up as a Cub, due to the trend thats been shown that the Cubs ownership is spending alot more now so they could also afford to re-sign CC.

The Red Sox would make a huge mistake trading for C.C. I can't help but picturing him as getting the next fat paycheck and sucking. Now Brandon Webb? I'd trade the farm for that.
