A Trashing before the Winter Classic

Jason RossiContributor IDecember 29, 2009

While everyone is looking forward to Fridays winter classic showdown with the Flyers, the B’s still have a game tonight vs. the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers and the Bruins squared off just last week, with the Bruins winning 6-4. In that game both Marc Savard & Zdeno Chara had 3 points (1 goal 2 assists) each. Tim Thomas let up 4 goals, but never gave up the lead. As for the Thrashers, coming into tonight’s game they will look to get former #1 pick, Ilya Kovalchuk the puck. Ilya Kovalchuk has 5 points against the B’s this year and has at least 1 point in all, but 2 games this month.  Kovalchuk is a must start tonight as he will try to keep his end 09 with a bang.

Atlanta Thrashers vs. Boston Bruins @ The TD Garden

STUD- Zdeno Chara
Chara has 5 points in his last 4 games (including that 3 point outing against Atlanta). Chara’s +/- numbers are been solid as of late. Charashould get his chances against the Trashers and goalie Ondrej Pavelec (who should be in net) Forecast: 2 points, 2 assists.

DUD- Patrice Bergeron
Bergeron had a good game last time vs the Thrashers with a goal and assist, but since then he has gone cold. Patrice Bergeron has just 7 shots over the last 2 games; he is currently been switching line, like most people switch underwear. Bergeron plays his best when he plays with consistent line. Tonight I would let him play on your bench, you wont regret it.

Sleeper- Tuukka Rask
Rask should be in net, to give Thomas the rest for the Winter Classic on Friday. I think tonight could be a good night to grab Rask for a shot start. Rask beat the Thrashers back in November so he knows the team, and I think he could have success tonight. Forecast: Win, 20-25 saves 2 goals allowed.

Happy New Year to you and yours, enjoy it! Don’t get to “under the weather” as you need to watch the Winter Classic, and of course read the first Fantasy Forecast of 2010. Thank you for reading.
