Second base, a position formerly known as weak, has seen an upgrade over the past season with the additions of several rising superstars. The awakening of Ben Zobrist brought new life to the Tampa Bay middle infield. The revival of Aaron Hill gave Toronto a second baseman to build around. Even the rookie campaign of Chicago’s Gordon Beckham injected fans with hope for an optimistic future.

Today, though, we are here to talk about the No. 1 man on our list, Chase Utley.

Utley, who hit for a .282 average with 31 HR, 93 RBI, 112 R and 23 SB, followed his Championship season of 2008 with a solid 2009. When it comes to fantasy baseball, no second baseman brings the “pop” quite like Utley, whose power is unrivaled at the middle infield position.

Come Draft Day, it should be no surprise to see him as a first or second round pick, as he should easily be the first second baseman taken. I say take a top shortstop first, then head over and see if he’s still available when your second pick rolls around.
