Celtics drafting for depth and future

John GrayCorrespondent IJune 22, 2008

Very happy the Celtics won their 17th last week, and still enjoying it.  Aside from re-signing James Posey, the Celtics need help at center and a shooter to groom to back up Pierce and Ray Allen.

I think it would be worth packaging this and next year's no. 1 picks for a potential center in Roy Hibbert. The mocks show Hibbert going to Utah in the low 20's.
I was hoping the Celtics could have gotten Hibbert last year with the no. 5 if he did not go back to school.

Hibbert would be better than Perkins and played well against Oden. Hibbert could at least have the potential to contribute in a position of need since Parrish left town.

Big Baby & Powe might be our PF's of the future.  Rondo the PG. The Celtics then need to focus on finding replacements for Ray Allen and Pierce in the next few years.

Otherwise, it would be nice to have a future shooter off the bench and groomed to replace Pierce, but it is unlikely to find that impact player in the late first round.

Hoping the Celtics draft Hibbert and let KG light a fire under him.
