Mark DeRosa Agrees to Deal with Giants

Free agent utility player Mark DeRosa has agreed to a two-year contract worth approximately $12 according to SI’s Jon Hyman. DeRosa put up solid numbers with the St. Louis Cardinals last year, hitting .250 with 23 homers, 23 doubles, and 78 RBI. He had undergone surgery to repair a torn tendon sheath in his wrist but reportedly passed his physical with the Giants this week.
The Giants has been scouting Florida Marlins second-baseman Dan Uggla most of the offseason, but the signing of DeRosa likely indicates San Francisco no longer has interest in the power hitter. Uggla will likely see his salary rise to the $8 million range, prompting the cash-conscious Marlins to shop him around to cut payroll.
