Well, it looks like the very outspoken and outrageous Karo Parisyan is looking at a new tactic to use in his much hoped for rise to the top, and possibly for the championship of the welterweight division in the UFC.
He was very critical of the loss he experienced to Thiago Alves his last time in the octagon.
Apparently he felt he suffered more damage at the hands of Matt Serra in their fight than he did during his match with Alves, claiming that while he endured the punishment laid upon him by Serra and continued to fight, that fight was allowed to go on to a decision, while the more recent fight with Alves was stopped prematurely.
He made light of Alves' skills and stated that he would be more than eager to go at it with him again.
Comparing himself to Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, both former light heavyweight title holders in the past, and considered as already being legends of MMA, in pointing to the similar number of losses they have had and from which they have recovered.
Stating further that "some personal issues and lack of motivation due to situations in his life" had kept him from adequately training for his Alves fight, he now has figured out a new plan to regain his place in the world WW rankings (which he feels should be No. 5 on the list).
So readers (please stay seated for safety's sake), he is going to go train with Georges St. Pierre at Greg Jackson's camp in Albuquerque, N.M.!
Greg Jackson became the "go to guy" for Georges and several Canadian fighters who also train with Georges at Tri-Star in Montreal, after he lost his WW belt to Matt Serra April 7, 2007.
Training and game planning for his fights with Jackson (who Georges considers a genius) certainly get a great deal of the credit for turning Georges' fighting life around; although he made other changes which have helped him as well.
Now Karo believes that with going to guru Jackson's camp and actually training with Georges, who is undoubtedly an asset to all of his training partners, and then seeing how Georges fares against his current title threat Jon Fitch, will be the answer to putting Karo back on the fast track and short list to the WW contenders' list.
Another advantage is that people outside of Karo's followers, of course, have been plaguing him with accusations of trying to dodge a fight with Fitch. He finds this laughable and would "welcome a fight with Fitch" after UFC 87 on August 9th.
Alongside all the obvious advantages ahead of him if he does join Jackson's camp is the fact that Georges has openly professed many times that he "will never fight with any of his friends or training partners, or stand in their way if they are trying for a title."
Hmmm! This may not be so crazy after all. Good luck with that, Karo.

Yeah, I remember GSP saying that after he beat Serra - that he would not fight his friends. For Karo's sake, I guese he better not become friends with GSP while training with him and Jackson's camp.

I think lot of people are missing the boat on karo, his VERY young and still has lots of potentials and he would be a great asset in the Jackson camp they’ll both benefit from each other especially karo’s judo throws . And just for the record karo parisyan was never offered a fight with Fitch how can you duck an opponent when the fight was never offered in the first place??? Think about it he mentioned it in a different way that was a smart move but lot of people are misinterpreting the situation and saying "karo doesn't want to fight fitch" they’re going to fight one day mark my words. lol karo has fought so many opponents since the age of 14 with grown man and has one of the BEST resumes in his weight class and has GREAT experience his only 25 and his record his 26-5 that’s amazing. And lot of interviewers always make it seem like karo's the bad guy and most of them twist his exact words and write the way that it seems more entraining for the viewers and talk about it constantly lol. In a different interview karo mentioned that “Thiago won not taking that away from him but that the fight was stopped a bit early cause I got rocked by serra worse and the fight was continued he didn’t say “prematurely” in those words. The fight was stopped little early and should have continued a little bit more especially a fighter like karo and for the fact we all know that!! Karo is simply stating his opinion and every fighter has their right not just the fans that’s why its called an “interview” but every word karo says gets "quoted" lol. Overall, this camp will be a great camp for karo and I still think gsp and karo should fight one day cause it wouldn't be fare just cause their from the same camp and it will be a great fight. Kos/Fitch they should fight one day too. Karo is VERY outspoken, straight, NOT fake like some other fighters just to put a fake image behind the cameras to sound “nice” sure he came be aggressive sometimes but he doesn’t mean anything by it he speaks his mind his Armenian their hot blooded but he also has a VERY good heart and shows it in his fights. He "says it like it is" his one of the honest people that I know but sometimes that rubs people the wrong way just cause they don’t know him in person. Good luck karo with this camp hopefully will see the karo that first entered the octagon at the age of 21.

What a great defence of Karo. The original article that I read did quote Karo extensively, so I thought I had toned it down, made it humorous and a little bit kinder. Confidentially, I loved your use of three question marks--I am like that with exclamations!!!

Karo faced GSP already in the UFC 46 - Supernatural and he lost to him. Lets work on Karo trainning with gsp first, getting his stand up game better, helping gsp get his judo better, let him face jon fitch, then face him off against BJ PENN in welterweight because we all know GSP is heading to Middleweight. And as GSP suggested before, he doesn't really like fighting people he's already beat, i.e. BJ Penn, and would rather face people like Anderson Silva to determine the best fighter in the world.

Just a couple of things: GSP was not a title holder and Karo would like to be, consequently Karo would more or less have to fight the title holder to get the belt. Well it would either mean he fights Georges or Jon Fitch, (Am I going too fast?). Consequently, he didn't beat GSP before and if he joins Georges who "will not fight friends or his training partners," and Georges is upset by Fitch (my God! I can't believe you made me write those words--involuntary shudder and making a yeck face), Karo will be able to analyze the fight and by knowing Georges training, game plan and reasons that he failed (curses! you made me commit treachery again!), would of course fare better should he fight Fitch.
I am shaken by these unclean thoughts, and out of breath from typing furiously on my laptop but am compelled to continue and point out that Dana has already approached Georges telling him about a proprosed fight with BJ Penn. The matter is up in the air due to the Fitch fight for George and Dana's hopes that Bj will defend his title against Georges newest training partner Roger Huerte and Ken Florian. I am so light headed now I hope I got my last point right--this has completely worn me out.

GSP vs. Anderson Silva gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I don't really like GSP's "I won't fight my friends" mentality either. If one of the guys GSP is training with comes out of Greg Jackson's camp and becomes one of the best fighters in the WW division and is next for a title shot? He can't just deny it. He'll look like Tito did a few years ago when he didn't want to fight Chuck Liddell.

Because George is a gentleman, I think he fully realizes the risk he will encounter due to his loyalty. Maybe that is more important to Canadians than to those who live in lower North America, I don't know. You are voicing the same concern my husband has pointed out to me on any occasion it comes up; we have argued it, but it hasn't happened yet. George may go up a weight class like Huerte just claimed he would after the Fitch fight. Anderson is going up to 205 and may love it there if he is successful in his next (Affliction night spoiler) fight against James Irvin.
Anyway, the weight classes may have a big shake up very soon with new opportunities for everyone.

That's funny you think I live in lower North America. I am 2 miles from the border of Canada and go there quite often to eat, gamble, go out clubbing etc. and have many Canadien friends. As far as "being a gentlemen" goes, this is the UFC, you should fight whoever is the best opponent for you regardless of friendship. Amir and Matt Brown were good friends on the Ultimate Fighter and they trained together. When they were proposed by the coaches and Dana to fight each other both agreed it would be a great fight and had respect for each other before and after the fight. If GSP is going pick and choose who he fights because of friendship, sooner or later its going to make him look soft.

In my opinion,Karo can certainly upgrade is striking in Jackson camp and more but its not gone make him good enough to be number 1 contender(he would need at least 5 win in a row against tuf opponent) but he sure can be back in the top 5.I also think penn and gsp would be a bad match up because Penn lose the first fight due to GSP wrestling skills and we all know that is wrestling and ground and pound are just at another level right now(last three fights Kos Huge Serra). As a mma fan,i am definitely dreaming about a match up GSP Silva even if GSP have a lot of good contender at 170.

Francois, I fear the real reason that BJ Penn wants to fight GSP is to cut him up and permanently mar Georges' good looks, and then lick Georges' blood off his glove. I remember when Georges was interviewed previous to his bout with Penn that "no one has ever hurt me in a fight." I think that is why BJ 'accidentally' gouged Georges in the eve and clipped his nose making him a bloodied mess for the rest of the fight (but not stopping him). Penn thought that he should have won that fight, and still argues that he did, based on the amount of damage he did to Georges' face. If they did fight again I would hope that Georges would take a tip from his close friend David Loiseau and open up Penn's forehead with an elbow, then break his nose. I shouldn't feel that way, but old age has made me mean, I guess.

Down, Marcus! Hey, I think you are very lucky to live so close to Canada; I have friends there too, but unfortunately, Georges (no matter how much I read and write about him), is not one of them. It is doubtful that he would listen to my advice anyway (although I would gladly tell him with MUCH authority NOT to shop on QVC, HSN, Amazon or eBay). Maybe you are close enough to visit him and advise him on this matter, and if he doesn't feel as strongly about this as he seems to, and you are still physically able to talk, please get back to me. Oh, and do ask him if he ever played with GI Joes or tore up his sisters' Barbies, or had a pet when he was growing up--I would like to do a human interest story on him sometine soon. Thank you in advance, and tread softly, just saying.
