Todays Formula BMW Internationals qualifying day here in Monte Carlo showed once again a determined and strong willed American package with team Sauber Red Bull Racing coming out on top. Brook Johnston took the pole position with a fastest lap of 1:14.84 and teammate Matt Jaskel followed closely with a 1:14.96 to top the front row for tomorrows race. Mattias Foyd finished in a strong third spot while second place points leader Cole Collier of Canada had several problems throughout the day mustering only a eighth place position on the grid. Although the series is relatively new and growing, the public seemed to be quite impressed with the level of driving from the teams today. The weather is clearing out here as the heat and the sun should bring out some clear and wonderful racing in tomorrows Formula BMW Internationals event. Interestingly the event will not be televised for tomorrows race due to the relative new start to this branch of Formula BMW. While the series remains to be popular here in Monaco, the series should be expected to grow and get its name out once it continues its tour of Europe and introductions. This weekends crowds however have shown its rapid release of growth as formula one teams and representatives, celebrities, and race fans pack downtown Monte Carlo. I expect this to be a strong supporter series over the years and the drivers today have certainly shown their skill this week. Sauber Red Bull Racing continues to lead the points in the championship with driver Brook Johnston and Cole Collier of Euro Internazionale looking to close the championship gap in tomorrows race. Lets hope for a great first start to the series here in Europe and introduction to some talented drivers.
