Despite only 3 wins in their past 10 games, the Phillies still find themselves atop the National League East by 2 games over the Marlins.
Things were going so well there with Ryan Howard finally coming to play, allowing the team to be running on all 9 cylinders; however, Chase Utley has taken a brutal turn for the worse…not being able to muster a hit in his last twenty-plus at bats. Don’t fear though, Utley is getting the night off after playing 75 straight with the hope of being able to pick his bat up for the weeks to come.
Tonight’s Lineup has Pat Burrell in an semi-familiar place, the 3-hole. He had a brief stint in the 3-spot last year when Utley was out with a broken hand. It was the catalyst to his MVP caliber second half.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Earlier this year when Howard couldn’t make contact to save his life, Burrell would have fit nicely in the clean-up spot with Howard at 5, which would have given Howard pitches to hit after pitching around the former number one overall draft choice, not to mention make it a L-R-L order. Nevertheless, Howard’s bat has come around, even though he’s on pace to break his strike-out record by quite a bit.
Bomb.
Oh disappointment, how familiar you are.
Vladimir Guerrero just hit his 30th career home run against the Phillies in the top of the third. Thirty seconds prior I was thinking of how Brett Myers has only given up one hit through 2 1/3 innings (a bunt single by Chone Figgins), and how I thought how perfect it would be for him, a struggling arm, to get the Fightin’s out of this slump…it’s only one run..we’ll live, hell…we led the league in come from behind wins last year, so we got that going for us…which is nice.
