Yesterday, something special happened.  If you know nothing about soccer (for example, if you work as a commentator for the BBC) you may have some idea that a 90-minute match with no goals is boring.

The Quarter Final clash between Croatia and Turkey was an excellent example of the old saying that sometimes "less is more."

It was the lack of goals that made this match far more interesting than if the expected glut of Croatian goals had been forthcoming.

The unlikely hero in all this was a man who wasn't really even supposed to be there.  Veteran goalkeeper, Rustu Recber—who has now played an amazing 117 games for Turkey—became the unlikely hero when standing in for Volkan Demirel, who was out due to a suspension.

Apart from a few close-run incidents, Rustu shone as the star of the match, leaping to block shots that seemed unstoppable.

Prior to this match, the Croatians were exhibiting typical arrogance, describing the Turks as naive and inferior.

They learned, as did Switzerland and the Czech Republic before them, that no team that makes it through the Group Stage should ever be underestimated.

Germany, are you listening?
