Citing health concerns and a desire to be focus on his family, Urban Meyer will step down from his position as the head football coach for the University of Florida after his team competes in the Sugar Bowl on January 1.

University of Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley has confirmed that Meyer will step down at the end of the season and details remain murky at this point.

In a statement to the media, Foley said "The bottom line is that Coach Meyer needed to make a choice that is in the best interest and his family."

Meyer has led the Gators to two national championships in the last five years and currently has a record to 95-18 in nine seasons as Florida's head coach.
