Rangers Say Goodbye to Jaromir Jagr

Steve McSweenJun 21, 2008

Yes it is true, the New York Rangers will not resign Jaromir Jagr or Sean Avery this upcoming season.

It is not because of their lack of abilities, but due to their lack of knowledge about the term "team," the two constant distractions will not be back in the Ranger blue.

For Avery maybe this is what he wants anyhow, it's quite obvious he wants to be the next Derek Zoolander and edit "Fashionably Male Magazine" rather than play hockey.

For Jagr though, his antics over the past several years may have made him untouchable to most NHL GM's and if that doesn't do it his contract demands just may.

It's tough to hate the guy, I mean after years of people telling you that you are the best(even Wayne Gretzky told him he was the next one in his final game), it would be hard to keep a level head.

The fact is though Jaromir isn't that 27-year-old phenom any longer, he is 35 and can't demand that the team revolve around him if they are going to reach the next level.

If Jagr could look around and see what happens to those stars who think they shine brighter than the groups that made them than maybe it would sink in...I mean Jaromir have ya heard from Axl Rose since he left Guns N' Roses?

His talents are definitely un-argued, although it took him 60 games to get going this year he was the teams best player in the playoffs with five goals and 10 assists in 10 games against the Devils and Penguins.

On numerous occasions his teammates have called him the most passionate player that they have ever played with, and that he wants to win.

But when the coaching staff is constantly trying to keep him happy it takes away from them teaching the rest of the team what it takes to win.

It may just be we have seen Jaromir Jagr's last game in the NHL unless he is willing to take a serious pay cut, and if that's the case there may be some teams interested in taking a chance, I wonder if Mario still has his guest house?
