After prolonged talks with the latest addition to the Penguins lineup, Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero has reported that talks between the team and Marian Hossa have broken down. This leaves Hossa open to test the free agency market come July 1st.
Shero has not lost all hope in possibly signing Hossa, citing that they could also try to sign him after the July 1st opening date.
Hossa came at a steep price to Pittsburgh as the Penguins had to trade away Colby Armstrong and Eric Christensen, along with coveted forward prospect Angelo Esposito and a first round pick in 2008.
In the playoffs, Hossa notched 12 goals along with 14 assists in 20 playoff games.
