MiddleWeight Battle- Strikeforce vs UFC
I already wrote a article about the HeavyWeight Battle: Strikeforce vs UFC so now I want to continue the battles and show you fellow UFC fans that StrikeForce is growing strong fast. Middleweight is one of their divisons that is deadly and has many different types of fighters.
The Battle will go like this: UFC sends out their top 5 middleweights and Strikeforce sends their top 5 five middleweights, and from there its up to the matchmaker Mr. Wasserman.
Let the Battle Begin!
Diaz/Lawler vs. Sonnnen
I put either Diaz or Sonnen against Sonnen because i felt that either of them can take out the average Sonnen. Robbie Lawler has amazing takedown defense and power hands. Combine those two attributes and you have a Chuck Liddell type fighter who loves smashing wrestlers with brutal knockouts. Diaz has awesome boxing as demonstrated in the Smith fight, and lethal jits. Sonnen would have no where to go because on the ground it would look like Sonnen vs. Maia and standing, he would get blasted by millions of small but effective punches. Though Sonnen has been pretty impressive lately, I don't think he can handle either of these men.
Pick- Lawler by 3rd round knockout.
Pick- Diaz by 2nd round submission.
Jacare vs. Maia
This is a classic example of what would happen when two grapplers meet. Their ground games would cancel out and with Jacares recent striking clinic on Lindland, I think that he would dominate standing up. Not to mention they both have fought each other in grappling tournaments before and Jacare has won the majority of them. Also while Jacare shoots are lightning fast, Maias wrestling is hardly average. Maia looks to be dominated in almost every part of the game.
Pick- Jacare by unanimous decision.
Cung Le vs. Belfort
This will be candy to the eyes to many striking lovers like me. It will be lightning fast hands vs. dashing kicks. This fight will be all about whether Belfort can take punishment and come inside with his fast punches. Or if Cung can come in better shape than his last fight and chop "The Phenom" down and finish him early on.
I feel that Cung's last fight was lost because of bad cardio, ring rust, and underestimating. If he comes in prepared against Belfort, watch for a headkick knockout. He's not an undefeated kickboxer for nothing.
Pick- Cung by TKO 2nd round.
Henderson vs. Marquardt
This fight would have happened in the UFC but I feel that it had no reason too. Henderson would make Marquardt look like an amateur. Only recently have people begun to see the true power and skill of Henderson as shown in the Bisping fight. Marquardt has pretty good wrestling but nothing compared to Hendersons olympic caliber wrestling. Also while Marquardt also has pretty good striking, Henderson has a steel chin and has suvived against notorious strikers like Anderson standing. Marquardt is very well rounded but not to the point that it can take him to victory against Henderson.
Pick- Henderson by unanimous decision.
Shields vs. Silva
Anderson is one of the P4P best while Shields is someone who usually fights at welterweight, recently almost tapped to Miller in a fight, and has no very good wins. Shields does have a chance, but its the same kind of chance that Leites had when he fought Anderson. Expect this fight looking like the Leites fight except with a fast decisive knockout.
Pick- Anderson by TKO round 1.
The Winner Is.....
STRIKEFORCE with of score of 4-1!!!
Anderson may be looking for a new home because he does not have many challenges in the UFC. If Strikeforce continues to build its divsions then they could soon be level with the UFC.
Feel free to leave a comment or concern regarding the results and matchups.
(P.S.- The matchups are made by me, so they may be a little biased).
