There are many NFL draft busts that are playing right now or played for a short time. An example is David Carr who was drafted by the Texans number one overall in 2002. Right now he is a backup for Eli Manning in New York. Most people think a Horrible draft bust would most likely be on the offensive side or a linebacker, but most of the recent draft busts in the 2000's are defensive lineman.
A defensive lineman is important as an offensive lineman, because they are the first line of defense and they are supposed to stop the run. If the defensive lineman doesn't do their job then their team would likely lose. Remember what happened yesterday against the chiefs, Jerome Harrison ran for 286 yards (passed Jim Brown's record for most rushing yards in a game for a Brown) , because their defensive line was mediocre. These are the 5 recent Defensive line busts.

Courtney Brown #1 overall by the Browns in 2000 (defensive end)

Most people forget that the Browns had back to back number one overall picks in 1999 and 2000. In 1999 they picked Kentucky quarterback Tim Couch. He didn't last long in the league and he got released in 2003. So on, people consider him a major flop, because of his inconsistent and mediocre play with only 64 touchdowns to match 67 interceptions in his career. Most people forget another flop was selected by the Browns the next year. They selected Penn State Defensive end Courtney Brown. He was the best defensive end in college and he won numerous awards including Big Ten defensive play of the year
During his rookie season he had a great amount of total tackles with 69 and a solid 4.5 sacks, but the Browns were still a mediocre team. The next season he was injure plagued and he recorded 4.5 sacks in 5 games and a solid 21 tackles. Later in his playing career he had poor numbers and he never exceeded up to expectations that the Browns had for him. The highest amount of sacks he would get in his career was in 2003 with 6 and he ended up retiring with the Broncos in 2005 due to injuries

Ryan Sims #6 overall by the Chiefs in 2002 (defensive tackle)

93905662

In 2001 the Kansas City Chiefs had a below average defense ranked 23rd in both yards and points allowed a game. In the 2002 draft they were looking for a major defensive play-maker with their number six overall pick. With this pick, they selected Ryan Sims, a defensive Tackle out of North Carolina who played with Julius Peppers.
During his rookie season he only started 2 out of 6 games he played for only a pathetic 6 tackles. That year the Chiefs defense was one of the worst in the league ranking near last in total yards allowed and points allowed. During his next three years he was a inconsistent starter and his best year was his sophomore campaign when he had 39 tackles 3 sacks. So on, his last year in Kansas he didn't start a game and had a dismal 7 tackles. He currently plays for thee Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he is having a solid season with 33 tackles and 1 sack, but he is on a team that currently ranks near last stopping the run. His career is a solid one, but he never met the expectations for the Chiefs and being a great play-maker on defense.

Gerard Warren #3 overall by the Browns in 2001 (Defensive tackle)

1364919

In two years the Cleveland Browns selected two flops, Tim Couch in 1999 and Courtney Brown in 2000. The Browns were still trying to revamp their defensive line with the Young defensive end Courtney Brown. Then, In 2001 they selected Garrard Warren with their third overall pick. He was a standout defensive tackle playing for the University of Florida and he was a great play-maker.
In his rookie season he had a stellar 61 tackles and 5 sacks, but unfortunately this was for the inconsistent Browns who were 7-9. Later in his browns career, his amount of total tackles would drop every year and in 2004 he had 18 tackles comparing to his rookie season when he had 61. Due to this, the Cleveland Browns defense was suspect and they're even today. In 2005, he was shipped off to the Broncos where he was still even sub-par and he only had 48 tackles within 2 years of being a starter. Currently he plays for the Raiders and has been steady this season so far by having 31 tackles. Gerard Warren has been below average and like Courtney Brown never meeting the Brown's expectation. Last of all, he had only 1 good year and that was his rookie campaign, it may been the effort and the ability to work hard that he lacked to be great.
